I arrived in Bhutan yesterday to attend the Sustainable Finance for Tiger Landscapes Conference under the patronage of The Queen, Jetsun Pema Wangchuck. I had the honor and immense pleasure to meet with the Queen and the King of Bhutan and hear directly from them about their passion and commitment for the environment. Today, I met with another Bhutanese environmental champion, prime minister Tshering Tobgay, to exchange some exciting ideas for future cooperation. The tiger conference aims to mobilize US $1 billion in new funding over 10 years for the preservation of tiger landscapes. In my speech at the opening session, I talked about the challenges and opportunities to protect our planet, the GEF's investments in tiger conservation and our long-standing relationship with Bhutan. Coming from Costa Rica, it is rewarding to my soul that Bhutan is not only carbon neutral but nature positive too! The world has lots to learn from this beautiful country! In 1991, the Global Environment Facility's second-ever grant supported Bhutan's conservation efforts. This close partnership continues and I'm looking forward to visiting several GEF supported projects this week. #investintigers #tigerfinance
