As such, Genus Care built in the day start alert: if there is an unexpected day-start in the Genus home, then an alert is sent to the system. Family/friends or professionals can check the data and even make a video call to see if everything is OK. This “simple feature” not only gives Willemien and many Genus users peace of mind, also the children and professionals now have a clear indicator if everything is OK. The result? Elderly have a better chance at living in their own home for longer, less pressure on professional caretakers and overall peace of mind. **Random Sunday Musings????** Sometimes as a Physiotherapist , try doing the activities you always so easily prescribe for your patients, maybe….. just maybe it’d help you appreciate their struggles better. ?????????? Often we’re too quick to intentionally or unintentionally invalidate people’s struggles simply because we’re not on the other side of the equation. It takes experiencing certain things firsthand to appreciate things better. But really! Who wants to experience having a spinal cord injury to appreciate the hardships persons in that situation go through?????♀? We all need to show genuine compassion, empathy and support for the people we encounter everyday and especially the patients/clients we meet as healthcare providers. Be Kind! ALWAYS! ?? Our panel discussion on navigating long-term care is in full gear. Our panelists are sharing their personal stories about finding and managing care for themselves or a loved one. The audience: long-term care providers, who get a window into the realities of what families navigate to find quality care.? ? How hard is it to navigate long-term care? “I don’t wish this on anyone,” notes one panelist.? ? But there are bright spots, too, about finally finding the type of care that revives and fulfills. We got my mom to “where she needed to be,” said one.? ? As we all map a better path forward for long-term care, stories like this help point the way toward how we can build a system that works for those most impacted by it – care recipients and their familes. ? How do the quality of care plans continue to be so poor? True innovation comes from taking a leap of faith, trusting that tick boxes are not reflective of people and focus on what matters! - deteriorating residents - complex care - restrictive practice - dementia advocacy - resident dignity and true choice It can be done and I’ve been part of this in action.
