?? Just finished reading “Articulating Design Decisions” by Tom Greever, and I’m genuinely inspired! Though many designers may have come across this book, it's the first one that kept me consistently engaged from start to finish. The opening chapter captivated me, setting the tone for what became a valuable lesson: the ability to effectively communicate design decisions is as crucial as the designs themselves. Here’s what I took away: 1. Solve a Problem: A design isn’t complete unless it addresses a specific challenge. Define goals, metrics, or KPIs early to keep you grounded. We designers often intuitively reach solutions, but breaking down that “gut feeling” can help others understand and support our choices. 2. Prioritize Usability: At each stage, ask, “How does this affect the user?” Usability is a mix of common sense and user research. Even with limited data, leverage your expertise to make informed assumptions, but stay ready to adapt based on real user feedback. Document your reasoning; it helps you defend your design decisions when needed. 3. Earn Support: Without team alignment, design conversations repeat endlessly. Keep stakeholders engaged by clearly communicating the "why" behind every decision. Have alternative solutions ready as comparisons, which not only validates your preferred design but also demonstrates thorough consideration. ?? In Meetings: 1. Understand: Know the concerns and goals of your audience. 2. Listen: Acknowledge feedback without defensiveness. Sometimes, valuable insights lie beneath surface objections. 3. Respond: Articulate decisions confidently and back them up with data or user-centered reasoning. 4. Follow Up: Reinforce your points with documentation to prevent revisiting the same discussions in future meetings. Mastering these skills doesn’t just elevate designs – it strengthens collaboration, builds trust, and leads to outcomes everyone is proud of. Let’s continue honing our craft, not just in design but in the way we communicate it. ???? #Design #UXDesign #crmdes #CareerReactor #Opjindal #Upgrad #Communication #TomGreever #ArticulatingDesignDecisions
