Layoffs are never easy, we all know that. In one fail swoop I am losing my income, the team I trust, a culture literally like no other, my insurance, access to my very expensive insulin…. It’s a lot. I have stayed until the last day of business to help support anyone I can during this difficult time, put in dozens of job applications, and received only “pass” letters (if anything at all). I’ll say what we are all thinking: “The job market sucks right now!” I am seeing entry level positions with applicants with masters and doctorate degrees…how do you compete with that?? You. Just. Keep. Going. Keep applying. Follow up messages to the hiring team. Growing your network. Use every tool you have access to… then find friends to borrow tools from!!! But MOST importantly is Self-Care! You must always rake care of yourself first. Take breaks, drink your water, get adequate QUALITY sleep, and give yourself grace. Quitters never win, and Winners never quit!!

What is the value of water bottle? Till it has water in it. For us our value is our skill. So we need to keep on updating our skill. Learn new technologies and keep ourselves safe in markets. Layoffs happening because of demand and and the resource is laking in skill set. My little piece of advice skill up and keep our job safe.

7 things I wish I knew 7 years ago: 1. Your career isn't about a dream job. It's about your skills, expertise, and network 2. While others fight over building sandcastles, focus on making waves by treating everyone with respect and consistently doing your best work 3. Never let anyone demand that you work evenings/weekends. Agree (before accepting a position) on the work to be done and that you will leave the office/sign off when that work is done 4. Trust yourself when your gut tells you your new boss or colleague is an *sshole: run, don't walk. Don't make excuses for them or give them second chances (i.e. read Bob Sutton's books) 5. Don't fall for the "Do this thing for us for free and it'll pay off later" trap 6. There is no "and then it gets easy" stage (at least not that I've gotten to) - every tier of value creation and compensation comes with hard work 7. Don't sell your Microsoft stock when you get hired in 2019

No matter how clear your vision or goal is, the journey will involve going in circles, zigzags, and taking unexpected detours. This is especially true in today’s industry climate, with over 10,000 layoffs just this year and the looming uncertainties around AI. It may look chaotic on paper, but if you zoom out, you’ll see you’re still moving in the right direction. I see people give up right before their breakthrough because they judge their progress based on their current state. They let a “failed” project or a single interview define who they are, instead of recognizing that each setback is just another stepping stone. Think about it: what if our parents had given up on us when we couldn’t walk in our first years of life? What if they stopped trying when we could only crawl? Even something as fundamental as walking and talking took us years to master. So why don’t we apply the same mindset to building our skills? First, learn to crawl. For someone trying to break into the industry, this might mean building your first game project. Then, take a few steps—build and polish your portfolio. Next, you’ll start getting interviews. You might pass the first stage but get rejected in the next round, keep going. Soon, you’ll reach the next round of interviews. And finally, one day, you’ll get the offer you’ve been working towards. Results aren’t always proportional to your effort; sometimes they appear suddenly after six months or a year, just when you least expect them. So, keep pushing forward, knowing that each step, each stumble, is part of the journey toward your goal.
