We’re thrilled to bring you our latest fellows-themed interview with the vibrant Dr. Rhian E. Davies, DO MS FACC FSCAI, interventional cardiologist and Director of Complex Coronary at WellSpan Health in York, Pennsylvania. As you probably know, she’s also a thought leader in the world of high-risk PCI. In this edition, Dr. Davies reflects on setting personal goals, shares tips on presenting at conferences, and discusses the importance of building relationships that extend beyond just physician colleagues. And as a token of our appreciation for joining our interview series, we arranged a special surprise for Dr. Davies. Tane McClure, who played Elle Woods' mom in Dr. Davies' favorite movie, ‘Legally Blonde,’ sent a whimsical hello just for her! Check it out below! ???? Here’s a teaser from the full conversation with Dr. Davies: ?FastWave Medical: Looking back at the early stages of your career, right after fellowship, were there business or professional concepts that you wish you had understood better? ??Dr. Davies: I wish I had a better understanding of contract review and its implications. It’s crucial to know what the contract offers, the goals of the practice you’re joining, details of your salary, and how it's structured. Beyond that, it's important to set personal goals for developing your program or business within the healthcare system you’ve joined. Answering questions like how many cases you aim to handle, where your patients will come from, and how they will learn about your services is vital. Ensuring you’re as accessible to your patients as they are to you is vital for building a successful practice and delivering care to patients who might not be aware of your specialty or existence. In September I celebrated 1 year at Novartis and I couldn't have summarized my experience better than a post by Viet Le. A few things I've learned along my journey: 1. Feeling seen: the ability to show up as an authentic leader and contributor at a workplace that values diversity, innovation, being unbossed will propel individuals to perform at peak and for a greater cause: patients. 2. Navigating adversity: how a workplace rallies around not just professional but personal adversities demonstrates their investment in you. Sometimes, it is not about solving complex problems at work but about how I can get creative to coordinate work travel while being a mom and making sure my 2 year old still gets fed, picked up from daycare, etc. It takes a village and you realize how important work can be a significant part of that. 3. Collaboration: when we can all come together and align on simple questions such as “what is our shared priority” and “how do we better the lives of patients”, magic happens! We get creative, we embrace challenges, we leverage data, and we look at ways to change human behavior to improve care quality and outcomes. I'm looking forward to learning and leaning in on my journey here at Novartis. Thank you to everyone that's contributed to my onboarding! #HIT #EHR #ValueBasedCare #DataAnalytics #PatientExperience #PrecisionMedicine

Folks, I cannot tell you the happiness this brings me to have four people of #AAPI backgrounds on a Teams call together. I introduce you to three highly accomplished colleagues: Clement H., Kathleen Nguyen, and Jenny McDonald, Ph.D. CMD. 1) We discussed ways to help me improve delivery of cardiovascular care to my Utah community. 2) How can we leverage existing medical records to identify "at-risk" patients and "Proactive"?to reach out, educate, and offer optimal guideline/evidence-based care? 3) How do we leverage that same EMR to improve appropriate screening, to calculate the risk, e.g., lipid panels, family history documentation, blood pressure documentation, etc.? I am proud to be a US Citizen and the opportunities that living here should provide to all people. I am also proud of my heritage, grateful for my immigrant family coming here, and happy to see how diverse and truly "melting pot" my country is. #Seen #VietNameseAmerican #PhysicianAssociate #healthcare #HIT #EMR #cardiology #Proactive #VBC #ValueBasedCare Intermountain Health Utah Academy of Physician Assistants American Academy of Physician Associates Novartis Academy of Physician Associates In Cardiology

Professional fulfillment is crucial for physicians’ well-being and optimal patient care. Highly demanding work environments, perfectionism and self-critical attitudes jeopardize physicians’ professional fulfillment. Back in 2020, cardiologists (n = 374) in the Netherlands participated in a web-based survey. Findings from this study suggest that improving physicians’ self-kindness may enhance professional fulfillment through personal resilience and work-home interference. The findings may stimulate and remind physicians to be kind towards themselves as it may benefit them and their patients. #selfkindness #professionalperformance #compassion #selfcare #cardiologist #physician #resilience #care The whole article and authors can be found in the firts comment ??

???Rethinking Risk and Prevention in Healthcare ?? Just watched a thought-provoking talk by Dr. Warrick Bishop titled "How Medicine, Money, and Mindset are Costing Lives." It left me reflecting deeply on our approach to healthcare, especially in the field of cardiology. The advancement in technologies like cardiac CT imaging has been a game changer, allowing us to see and quantify arterial health. This capability brings us closer to precision medicine, but Dr. Bishop emphasizes that our healthcare system, driven by high-stakes funding and traditional mindsets, still lags in prioritizing preventive measures over reactive treatments. ?? As we navigate through the complexities of modern medicine, it's essential to advocate for change that prioritizes prevention and personalized care. The costs are high, not just in financial terms, but in human lives. This call to action isn't just about adopting new technologies; it's about changing our mindset towards healthcare. Let's prioritize prevention and save lives before they are at risk. #HealthcareInnovation #CardiacPrevention #PreventionOverCure #PatientCare #Cardiology
