RESILIENCE Tonight I took my daughter to her first live music concert. The delightful and talented Tones and I. It was…..brilliant! I was fortunate to see Tones and I earlier this year when she opened for Pink, so I knew she was going to be amazing. And she was. ?? What was also amazing, most unexpected, but bloody fabulous? A cameo by Australian breakdance champion Rachael Gunn! This chick has copped a lot since she represented Australia at the Olympics, and regardless of your personal opinion about her performance, no athlete should have to endure what she did after she competed. Many of us wouldn’t be able to dust ourselves off and keep doing what we love for fear of continued judgement, and in her case, loud and varied public opinion. Yet here she is, doing what she loves. Want to teach your kids about resilience? Tell them the story of Rachael ‘Ray’ Gunn. Want to build your own resilience? Dance like no one’s watching, because if you love it…who bloody cares what anyone else thinks.

Throwback to one of the craziest and coolest moments from back in the day—being featured on MTV Laguna Beach with my first band. Wild times. ?? Starting that band was all about figuring things out as we went—loading gear into Mom and Dad's car, playing tiny shows, and doing whatever it took to get our music out there. When MTV called to feature our band on Season 3 it was a wild and surreal experience in high school as a 16 year old. From playing TRL to touring with some of our favorite bands. Looking back, those moments weren’t just about music—they were about learning what it really takes to build something meaningful, and then being ready when opportunity comes to your door. Whether it’s a band, a business, or a new idea, it’s all the same: start small, work hard, and stay true to what feels real. Some things I picked up along the way: 1. Just start. You’re never going to feel "ready," so don’t wait—just jump in. 2. The process is the magic. All the little, unglamorous moments are what make big things happen. 3. This one is huge- I always had this wild fantasy and end destination in my mind of what I thought would give me the most happiness- huge shows, massive tours, etc. but when you actually get there- the feeling isn't all that different than playing in front of 150 people. Have high aspirations, but don't expect a complete change in who you become. 3. Be 100% you. People connect with authenticity, whether it’s on stage or anywhere else.
