THANK YOU #MSC In the world we live in the older generations that has their sell by date highlighted by so many corporations and slowly but surely the younger captains of industries has these highly, skilled, exercised and dedicated employees in sight for elimination, like it's a game show. As the need to involve into the future so they can be more edgy, ahead of the competition. Regardless of the knowledge, experience and most importantly the wisdom and passion this generation carries with them,that wich ignites their flames of passion. New leaders see them as "has beens". As someone who owned a medium sized events and creative Management company that lost everything during covid Including my spouce of 20 years,all that at the age of 55.Who was going to employ and old man and In my country a white older man? I was at the bottom of the work food chain and soon from all aspect of life. Then one winters morning I get a phone call from Italy and I couldn't believe that I was selected to be back in events, but even better on a cruise ship. MSC did not care about my age just my ability and experience. MSC, You showd me and so many others what inclusiveness means, and when other companies practice ageism you embrace wisdom , knowledge and experience.We SALUTE MSC, you truelly live up to the values. I was 18 in this pic. I won Apprentice Of The Year at THG. Those early wins. Do they matter? I was fresh into the corporate world in my first role. Not scared to ask too many questions. Not scared to talk to higher-ups. Not scared to make mistakes. It paid off. Never underestimate the impact of early recognition. ?? During 20 years in my career, I’ve been called a lot of things: A “boss lady”, “Minister of fun and Finance”, even the “escalation queen”. I've had my fair share of nominations and awards, but yesterday took the cake! I was called in for a casual catch-up with my boss, and as I sat there deep in my own thoughts—overthinking as usual—a million ideas raced through my mind. “What this meeting could be about, we just had a 1:1 very recently”; I never expected what was coming. When the moment finally arrived, I was completely shocked and then filled with pride and joy to learn I won the “Exceptional Contributor award” of the Year at Air New Zealand! A bit of insight about this award: Leaders are able to nominate their people – at all levels in the organization, and regardless of what work area or employment agreement they’re on – to receive an Exceptional Contributor award. In order to be eligible, you must demonstrate achievement against some or all of the following 6 criteria (practical examples will be required): Consistently achieves all expected outcomes to a very high standard - Has exceptional mastery of their role in all areas including technical skills and knowledge - Constantly strives to improve business results - Role models the Air NZ values and behaviors - Acts innovatively and drives positive change - Has made a significant contribution to one or more of the Kia Mau strategic pillars This recognition means the world to me, and I want to take a moment to thank everyone who supported and nominated me. I’ve always believed that individual accomplishments aren’t possible without a supportive team. ?? Reflecting on a year of growth As the year draws to a close, I've been reflecting on a whirlwind of challenges, achievements, and personal growth in 2024. It's been a year that has stretched me, both professionally and personally, and while I haven't always got it right, I’m grateful for the lessons learned along the way. In the past year, I’ve had the privilege to: ?? Complete an ECITB Project Controls course, building on my professional skills ?? Collaborate with SEND Enterprise to support schools in Middlesbrough alongside my colleagues. ?? Work closely with colleagues at Linjebygg AS and Altrad Babcock, fostering collaboration and shared success ?? Represent Altrad UK, Ireland & Nordics at local networking events, strengthening community and professional connections through our membership with EEEGR (East of England Energy Group). ?? Become an Enterprise Advisor with New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership to support local schools and mentor the next generation in shaping their futures while encouraging our team to engage in events and give a little back to our community. ?? Deliver an Altrad Xcelerator project, driving innovation and change to employee wellbeing and benefits. ?? Maintained client relationships while embodying a servant leader approach for our team of 45+ at Bacton. ?? Coached and mentored individual colleagues to help them see their potential and aim for the stars. ?? Embarked on a challenging but rewarding three-year apprenticeship degree with City College Norwich to further my professional and personal development. All of this unfolded against a backdrop of significant personal challenges – navigating family grief, managing personal issues, and tackling the ups and downs of life. What did I learn? ??Resilience matters: Even on the hardest days, I kept moving forward. ??Proactivity is key: Facing challenges head-on helped me grow, even when I doubted myself. ??Authenticity wins: I wasn't always the best version of myself but I feel I was always honest about my intentions and did my best in each moment. Looking ahead, I’m excited to continue building on the lessons of this year, nurturing relationships, leading with empathy, and embracing the opportunities and challenges to come. Two weeks in at Michelin North America, and I couldn’t feel more welcomed or prepared! Starting a new role can be daunting, but Michelin has made the transition seamless. From day one, I was met with a thorough onboarding program that not only provided technical training but also a deep dive into the company’s mission, values, and long-term opportunities. Here are a few key takeaways from my first two weeks: ??Holistic Learning Experience: Attending our site’s New Hire Class last week gave me a well-rounded perspective on Michelin’s operations, culture, and shared goals. ?? While some of our IHM students are working hard on their Employability exams and others are gearing up for their job search, here’s an inspiring story from Silvia Pentia Franzén, a 2017 IHM graduate. ?? Q: Can you share the highlights of your career path with us? Silvia: Of course! I landed my first job at Radisson Hotel Group very quickly – after a few online interviews and an Excel test, I moved to Sweden by mid-March 2017. When COVID hit, the hotel industry was severely affected, and I had to change my career path. Fortunately, all the revenue management knowledge I gained in the hotel industry proved valuable in my role at a telecom company. But I’ve always dreamed of working for an airline, and when I got my current role as Pricing Executive at AirFrance-KLM, my dream came true! ??" Q: How does the airline industry compare to the hotel industry? Silvia: The airline industry is much more dynamic, and revenue management here operates on a much more detailed level. ??? Q: Any advice for our hospitality students in their job search? Silvia: Your education is crucial at the start of your career. ?? One key lesson I’ve learned is that the way you kick-start your career has a huge impact on your future. If you ever get the chance to join a trainee program, grab it!
