This week at Freja, we received a customer message that stopped me in my tracks. Not because it started with a problem (yes, we do have issues!), but because it ended with trust. Running a food business isn't just about creating great products. It's about the relationships we build with every single person who chooses to bring Freja into their kitchen. When something goes wrong - and things sometimes (often?!?) do - it's not just about fixing the immediate issue. “Just wanted to Thanku for your attentive and wonderful service. I made my 1st order with you and I wasn’t impressed as two of the cartons were leaking and you promptly replied to my complaint and sent me a replacement- free of charge. It is incredibly refreshing to deal with a company that puts the clients problem at the top of their list and fixes it as quickly as you have. I have made chicken soup using a carton and it tasted delicious. I will not hesitate to recommend your company and yummy product to family and friends. thank you again” This feedback matters because it reflects exactly what we strive for at Freja. Do customers stick the CamPure camphor cone or do they hang it? Simple question? What implications could this have? But how do we answer this instantly? And without engaging external agencies? Here comes MVP “first party data” to the rescue! Within hours of this thought, we launched a poll on Whatsapp via GoKwik to over 45,000 CamPure cone customers and instantly received over 1,000 responses with a resounding, wait for it, 82%, YES EIGHTY TWO % of customers saying they hang the cone by its loop! Wow! Is our product over engineered, as it has both the options? Does this mean we should ditch the sticker altogether? We could potentially save Rs 50 Lakhs a year and even speeden up the manufacturing process, tempting much? Do we blindly abide by the statistically significant (if at all) answer? Or this isn’t just about the math and needs some English as well. - Will the 18 % who use the sticker adapt and use the loop to hang? Or will they be grossly inconvenienced? - Will the sales team lose a sales weapon? Since competition doesn’t have a sticker, isn’t it a nice differentiated USP to have? (But the biggies don’t have it, surely they didn’t just miss it?) - Just intuitively what if the usage doesn’t have place for the loop to be hung, wouldn’t the 82% be happy with the option of the sticker? Using Slang as a Customer Service Representative. . . . . When helping a customer resolve whatever issue, always be professional. For instance: A customer is complaining of malfunctioning of a service or product bought from your company. Do not say, "Take a chill pill, your problem would soon be resolved". The above could cost you your job as you sounded disrespectful and not everyone knows what your slang really means. Rather say ; I am working on resolving the problem now, hang in there for a few more minutes please. Do the former and face consequences or do the later and get a 5 star rating.
