In September 2022, MSE acquired the regional sports network, then-called NBC Sports Washington and newly rebranded as Monumental Sports Network. Prior to acquiring the linear platform, the digital platform was launched by MSE in 2016, as the first-of-its-kind regional sports network for digital, mobile, and streaming platforms. To all young people who want to make a career in sports marketing/ broadcast / PR / governance, operations/ partnerships / sponsorship, etc. - figure out why you want to get into the industry first, before you make that leap. List the reasons down for clarity and think through, why and how you can make your mark here. I’m hearing a lot of I love sports, and I’m passionate etc. - all of that is great, but the job is tough, it requires often long hours and you sacrifice your weekends and holidays - working in LIVE / competitive professional sport, often days and weeks on end! There’s nothing glamourous about it. Please don’t get into it because you are a fan boy / girl. This goes for the young sports reporters too. Your job is to tell the story, cover the game, ask the right questions to the athletes, bring the thinking behind the game to the fan who is sitting at home, watching it all unfold. You cannot afford to be taking selfies, with the athletes, coaches, stars of the game, if you are meant to do that job responsibly and objectively.
