Did you know that more than 90% of Tarrant County parents think their kids are at grade level when in reality, only 50% of kids actually are? As parents, we're used to report cards being the standard for how our kids are doing in school. We assume that if our child is receiving A's and B's, they are performing well, but report cards do not always paint the whole picture. I am beyond thankful that my daughter has a teacher this year who has been exceptional at communicating where she is at, a standards-based report card, and proactively sending home MAP and Renaissance STAR scores (which, by the way, are all standards/assessments to measure whether your child is growing academically and if they are on grade-level). However, I know that this is not necessarily common practice for all teachers/districts. Please help in sharing the resources from the Go Beyond Grades campaign (packaged by Learning Heroes (US)), which provides tools to both parents and teachers on what actions they can take to ensure shared knowledge and understanding of a student's academic performance and create plans for success! "A lot of mentors come in knowing they want to go into education, and we give them experience in the classroom and training to put them on that path. We've found that Substitute Teachers are ideal teachers for our programs because: 1. They have a flexible schedule and can choose to work as much or as little as they'd like by simply accepting teaching assignments. Meaning that during our slow season (winter), they can work more in the schools, but during our busy seasons (spring through fall), they have the flexibility to work more farm programs with us. 2. They're used to variable learning environments. Our audience is always changing and we love the on-the-spot skills that Substitute Teachers have! 3.
