We believe that building stronger, smoother, accelerated pathways between K-12 education, postsecondary education, and careers is not only necessary to grow our economy, but also to address inequality in our communities. Our work leading the #AccelerateED community is central to this mission. We wanted to know, what would it take for every high school student to have the opportunity to earn college credits without the financial burden? To complete an associate degree one year after high school? To gain valuable experience and career preparation in a field of interest during high school? And while we are excited to tell you all about this work, instead we think it’s better to hear directly from the students who are most impacted by it. Up first in our new student voice video series, meet Qamar Ayyoubi, a rising senior at Kettering Fairmont High School in Ohio and nursing pathway student, is earning college credits in high school toward a degree and high-demand career in healthcare: https://lnkd.in/g8wRcZZS

After a busy summer and the beginning of the school year, I'm excited to share some of the amazing work we’ve been doing at Cal-SOAP, along with some personal projects. As I transitioned into my role as the Imperial Valley Cal-SOAP Academic Coordinator late in the spring, I was thrilled to bring the 'Summer Melt' program to the Imperial Valley—a first for our community! We reached out to over 2,000 students (Class of 2024) countywide, providing direct support to 119 students who faced challenges with financial aid, housing, orientation, and community college applications. About 69% expressed intentions to enroll in local community colleges, but we also found that 14% were planning to attend a four-year institution. However, many of these students were still struggling or confused about their next steps. We provided vital career exploration for students without a clear plan or those considering paths outside of college, including various trades and law enforcement. At the same time, we identified a significant issue at community colleges: many students enrolled in the wrong classes or lacked an academic plan, which can lead to potential delays in transferring or dropping out. Alarmingly, only 1 in 5 students in California community colleges transfer to a four-year institution. This is particularly concerning since more than two-thirds of our graduating class will go to community college. To address this, we aimed to empower students by helping them create personalized two-year plans that align with their degree goals or transfer requirements. Programs like this are essential for providing equitable support, especially for first-generation students who often lack guidance in their post-secondary plans. This summer program was particularly important, as it allowed us to assist students with their diverse career and educational plans during a challenging FAFSA cycle for the class of 2024. I also want to extend a heartfelt thank you to my program director, Linda Doughty, for approving the Summer Melt program in the Imperial Valley and for facilitating the support of team members from the San Diego team. Your support made this initiative possible! Together, we can ensure every student in our community has the support they need to thrive. I invite you to share your thoughts or experiences in supporting students on their educational journeys. Here’s to fostering a brighter future for all! ???? #SummerMelt #HigherEducation #CommunitySupport #FirstGen #Empowerment #CalSOAP #ImperialValley

I sat down with the FDU Florham Student Government Association earlier this year. An enjoyable experience, as always! As universities, we often talk about improving the "student experience." But what does that really mean? Students have real, tangible, and practical ideas that can make a difference. You just need to give them a platform to share them with you without fear. We can have great programs and fantastic faculty, but... is that all there is to a great university or college experience? What about the little things? The day-to-day things that can make or break a student's time on campus? I left that meeting feeling challenged and so inspired. Higher education is more than classes and grades; it's about growth, preparation for the future, and building a foundation for success. What do you think makes for an amazing university experience? What did you wish you had in college that would have set you up better for your career?

Embracing the Summer Term: A Beacon of Opportunities As the calendar flips to the warmer months, schools across the UK begin the summer term. This term is not just a countdown to the exam season and the summer holidays but a vibrant season brimming with opportunities for growth, learning, and enrichment. So what am I looking forward to? Celebrating Diversity and Creativity The summer term often hosts a plethora of events that celebrate the diverse talents within Shrewsbury's school’s community. From art exhibitions and music concerts to drama productions and talent shows, these occasions will allow pupils to express their creativity and showcase talent. Outdoor Learning The warmer weather also opens doors to outdoor learning opportunities. Outdoor week in June is one of my favourite weeks of the year. It enhances learning experiences, promotes physical and mental well-being through a connection with the environment. Our sports day and the Bumping races are also highlights, both fostering House spirit and healthy competition, with teachers playing an essential role in motivation and celebration Academic Milestones For many pupils, the summer term encapsulates significant academic milestones, including exams and progress assessments. It’s a season of hard work and perseverance, with teachers guiding pupils through revision strategies, offering support, and instilling confidence. This term serves as a crucial phase in preparing students for the next academic year, or for older students, the next steps in their educational journey or career path. Transition and Growth For all pupils, the summer term marks the end of an era and the beginning of a new chapter. Transition and leavers’ celebrations are poignant milestones. Teachers have the honour of guiding individuals through these transitions, offering advice, and celebrating their achievements. So let's hope for warm weather and embrace this vibrant and dynamic term. What's your favourite thing about this term? #SummerTerm #UKSchools #PupilCreativity #OutdoorLearning #AcademicMilestones. #educationalleadership

As a state so heavily dependent on tourism, legislators should balance education benefits with the economic impact of changing school start dates. While Horry County has been a hold out (for now) our base of tourism who drive here from the rest of SC and the surrounding states has dried up putting a halt on peak revenue season as much as a month early. Not to mention summer work for teachers becoming less realistic with a shrinking summer sabbatical. Our entrepreneurs in Retail and Hospitality will continue to suffer from these changes that aren’t analyzed thoroughly enough. https://lnkd.in/e2PATDbv

To Be Like Me Is such an great group of people doing such important work.
This is exactly a week late but didn't want to go another day without appreciating the hard work of the amazing team at To Be Like Me. My teammates, District Admin, and I (Tami Kirby Tonya Parma Jeffrey Gonzales Shirlett Warren) were able to volunteer with this amazing group and spend the day working with 4th graders from Richardson ISD. Grateful to be working at Insperity and the opportunities it allows for me to be involved in my community! #insperity #communityfirst

To help them acclimate to campus life, all incoming Stonehill College students are required to take a one-credit “First-Year Experience (FYE)” course during their first semester. Volunteer faculty, staff and returning students facilitate this class. We recently asked this year’s FYE facilitators to offer their best advice on studying, figuring out the best career fit, and making friends in college.? “Accept change, confusion and new experiences,” Michael Sheehan ’25 said. “It’s completely normal to not be quite sure what you want to do. My best recommendation is to say ‘yes’ to classes or experiences outside your major. They can be quite eye-opening.” Visit our website to read other tips offered by our FYE facilitators: https://zurl.co/zBmO
