Did you know the Catalina Wine Mixer wasn’t a real event until the movie Step Brothers made it one... 6 years later? The *iconic* gala takes place during the last scene of the movie when the brothers head to the "greatest wine tasting event" on Catalina Island. The fictional event appeared so real, people would google the event to see if it was actually a thing. It got so much traction that 6 YEARS after the movie came out, Catalina Island *actually* decided to create the mixer IRL. To say it was a success is an understatement. It’s 2024, and the mixer STILL sells out every year. As a brand marketer, one thing is clear: Branded entertainment is a powerful medium to create movements. Instead of trying to insert yourself into the story, you have the power to write it yourself. What does ?? and 1988 have in come? Pi Day was first founded in 1988. However, it didn't become officially recognized as a holiday until 2009. ?? One thing I love most about this day (besides the fact that it's to celebrate a PIece of math), is how brands get involved! No, it's not just for the free pie, but I won't pass that up either. One of my favorite local breweries ALWAYS has a special four pack available for purchase around Pi Day that highlights 4 pie flavor brews. I fall for this almost every year for these reasons: ?? I'm a loyal fan. ?? It's a special/exclusive item that is not sold year round. ?? I appreciate how the brand stays true to who they are (brewers) but still take part in this holiday in a fun way and have been consistent with it. ??
