Why California is still the best for cannabis brands? 1. Highest total dollars spent. More money for brands to target. Only Michigan sells more flower on a total basis but every other category CA is #1 2. 4th lowest sales/population leaving massive room for growth. California only does $8.56 per person where Michigan is $26.74. If California had same $ spend per person it would be over 1b per month in sales. 3. California has one of the closest sales between category’s. This allows brands that offer products in mutiple category’s to spread out some risk. 4. This is outside the data set and pure opinion but California has the best products. A lot of products originate in California and then copy pasted elsewhere. California may have many glaring problems that need fixing for cannabis to thrive, but there is a lot of room for growth still. I’m glad we started to play in the Vape category as concentrate sales are only 18.68m per month at a retail level. If you assume that products are marked up 2.5x then that leaves only 7.47m of $ between all the brands. That means the top 20 brands only get $373k per month in revenue and let’s be real the top 7 or so probably make up 80% of the total sales. This also means that the brands outside the top 20 are fighting for pennies. Our best month saw over 700k in sales to dispensaries, getting us damn close to 10% of the total concentrate market in California. Posting this on a Sunday will probably suck for reach but it’s the only time I can really spend on social media. Love to hear other opinions!

"Redefining Success in Oregon's Cannabis Industry: Navigating Payment Challenges and Setting New Standards" For those who haven't met me yet, I've been in the Oregon Cannabis Industry for 6+ years. I forget sometimes that I have been immersed in all parts of the cannabis industry. Whether it be working on a farm, to retail, to being a part of an amazing sales and leadership team at Portland Heights. I'm heading south to CannaDataCon this week and looking at the speaker list, it's pretty awesome to see the list of Michigan names representing, including Nathan Russell, Ankur Rungta, Tre Hobbs, and Randall Buchman. The first recreational dispensaries went live in Michigan at the end of 2019, and 3 years later we broke $3 *billion* in total retail sales, behind only the state of California. We don't have an issue with unlicensed shops here (though raw inputs is a different story). We have some of the best product in the U.S. and while there are always ways to make it better, the licensing schemes are pretty decent with several options for any size operator including micro licenses that allow a business to grow, process, and distribute out of 1 location just like a micro brewery would. I truly believe that Michigan has one of the best cannabis markets for consumers in the country, if not *the* best. And heck, if you're a home-grow person you can still do that here or find providers who are part of the state licensed caregiver program. Our state is not without issues and every single one of us involved has things we wish we could change, but perfection is the enemy of progress and often times close enough is pretty good, especially when we've seen time and time again that slow rollouts can plague a market with loopholes and unlicensed activity. Outsiders will say "but no one is making money in Michigan," which is completely false and only fits their narrative of large corporations not being able to survive in unlimited licensed states due to a lack of regulatory capture. The reality is, while there are some bad actors and unprofitable businesses, there are many example of good and profitable cannabis businesses in Michigan. People who make their living, myself included, and provide for others through cannabis.
