Happy World Water Day! It's a great time to reflect on your relationship with water: where does your water come from? How do you connect with your local waterways - rivers, wetlands, lakes, aquifers, oceans? What are your obligations to water? And if you're in Colorado Springs next week, come and join me for a chat about rivers as living entities, and what this can mean for our relationship with them. https://lnkd.in/g2BsWnAp

It’s time to rollout #ecovoltaics/#agrivoltaics across the Commonwealth! Pollinator plantings can be readily managed with targeted sheep grazing to keep woody plants under control, stagger bloom times & provide appropriate disturbance. Reducing grass competition periodically is important as the planting ages to reinvigorate wildflower stands. I look forward to a day when multiple activities are integrated on the same property - habitat, cover crops, vegetable production, grazing & more on different parts of sites or in rotation.
James Madison University is the first university to earn Virginia PollinatorSmart certification for their pollinator-friendly solar field! We celebrated this accomplishment this week with the PollinatorSmart team that is made up of 3 state agencies (Virginia Department of Environmental Quality + Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources + DCR), 2 universities (JMU + William & Mary) and 1 nonprofit (Flora of Virginia). Planting native plants under and around solar arrays has ecological benefits (explained by Steve Living, DWR habitat education coordinator) and economic benefits. There’s more than one layer to embracing #Agrivoltaics within the landscape fabric of our communities. Solar farms may not be as impactful as Solar ON farms and family owned land. When it comes to how much, where and enviromental impact down to the simplest terms of pollinator habitats it worth the consideration to look at solar through a different lense. There’s more than one way to look at solar. #cleanenergy #AgriVoltaics #thinkglobalactlocal
