The National Survey of Child and Adolescent Well Being (NSCAW) is the only source of nationally representative, longitudinal data on the well-being of children and families involved with the child welfare system. Conducting the third cohort, NSCAW III, proved more challenging methodologically than previous NSCAW cohorts and included additional obstacles such as the COVID-19 pandemic interrupting data collection. Learn about the design of NSCAW III, the methodological challenges and solutions implemented during the baseline wave, and the analytic opportunities for researchers interested in accessing the NSCAW III data in this new brief from our research partner RTI International. https://buff.ly/3KypbGM #Data #ChildWelfare

Engaging fathers in child welfare cases, especially those involving domestic abuse, can be challenging. But it's crucial for child safety and family healing. Here's how the Safe & Together Model has transformed practice with its domestic abuse-informed and trauma-informed practices: ? Focus on the person choosing violence & their pattern of behavior, not isolated incidents ? Have equal behavioural & child care expectations for men & women as parents ? Assess how perpetrators choices impact family functioning, child wellbeing & safety ? Collaborate with the protective parent Want to learn more about working effectively with perpetrators as parents? Our child welfare partners are now leveraging predictive risk models as a casemix measure. Any doctor, nurse, or social worker will tell you that not all cases are created equal. Some are straightforward, while others keep you up at night. For decades, we've utilized casemix adjustments in healthcare, but child welfare has been lacking this tool. Until now! Managers and supervisors often struggled to compare caseloads across workers and its hard to know who was up for a new assignment and who was over-stretched. For workers with the same number of cases, complexity can vary significantly (more children involved, more providers, more placement activity). Our SDA supervision tools include a caseload monitoring screen that provides supervisors with a snapshot of their workers' caseloads. The exciting part? It’s a complexity-adjusted caseload. And, as with all our tools, it’s just one click away. Or, as I like to say, it's a one-click wonder! #ChildWelfare #PredictiveModeling #CaseloadManagement #SocialWorkInnovation #Healthcare #ChildSafety
