Ontario is a viable option for air travel and air cargo in Southern California. Ontario International Airport has seen a significant increase in both its passenger and cargo traffic. The airport handled close to 470,000 passengers in January, including more than 45,000 international travelers. While the increase of almost 10% in passenger traffic from the same month a year ago is impressive, it is the airport’s recent success in its cargo volumes that stands out. According to the Federal Aviation Administration, in 2022 ONT was the ninth leading cargo airport in the United States, and third in the west, trailing only Anchorage and LAX. One of the more fascinating airports to study is Raleigh/Durham (RDU). Some relatively new routes they have secured include: - Europe: Frankfurt (Lufthansa), Paris (via DL now to Air France), and Reykjavik/Keflavik (Icelandair) - Central America/Caribbean: Freeport (Bahamasair), Mexico City (Aeromexico), and Panama City (Copa) It is quite fascinating how frequencies and equipment have been increased on some of these routes as well, especially Air France's RDU-CDG (moving to daily w/ 789 and 359 mix). Does RDU truly have this demand for international traffic, or are airlines and the RDU area really good at stimulating that demand? Really, I believe incentives are the only way to entice an airline to serve long haul routes to midsized cities. For example, why else would an airline pull an aircraft from a high yielding route like FRA-DXB to a market that is unsure like Cincinnati? Some places work harder than others to secure international services by offering more robust incentive packages, that other cities are not willing to offer. I believe that RDU should be the example, because face value, it seems like a city of that size should not be able to support the shear influx of international traffic. However, they have done a great job creating demand. What airlines would take a chance at midsized cities without incentives? I certainly believe markets like Nashville, Indianapolis, and San Antonio can serve international destinations PROFITABLY without the need for massive packages. Within the decade, especially with the advent of the fantastic A321LR/XLR, we will see cities like these get the much desired service to Europe. Here are some examples of some winners that could pan out and work: BNA-FRA (x3 weekly) BNA-AMS or CDG (x3 weekly) BNA-DUB (x2 weekly) IND-LHR (x3 weekly) IND-CDG (x3 weekly) (IND-CDG existed pre-COVID on DL) BUF-DUB (x2 weekly) PIT-AMS or CDG (x3 weekly) SAT-LHR (x4 weekly) SAT-CDG (x2 weekly) Some of these frequencies might be whimsical but worth a shot! https://lnkd.in/ekVkbGqT

?????? The most popular Europe-US departure time this summer is 12:00 local time. About 70% of flights leave between 10:00 and 16:00 local. Early departures before 07:59 include several new routes this year. Examining every scheduled passenger flight submitted by airlines to Cirium for April to September indicates that the most popular Europe-US departure time is at the rather pleasant time of 12:00 local, wherever in Europe.
