A New Era for Family Office Investments in Real Estate The?PwC Global Family Office Deals Study 2024?provides valuable insights into how family offices are reshaping their investment strategies—and real estate is once again finding its footing. After a period of decline,?real estate investments now account for 30%?of family office portfolios—the highest share since 2019. This resurgence highlights a renewed confidence in the stability and potential of property as a key asset class. Several key trends were found to be?driving this shift: 1. Rising Impact Investments: ? Family offices have steadily increased impact investments over the past decade, with over 50% of total investments directed toward impact initiatives in the first half of 2022 (intention to generate positive ESG impact alongside a financial return). The report identified renewable energy and social housing for real estate investments.?? 2. Preference for Collaborative Investments: ? Family offices have increased 'club deals' over 'sole deals' driven by the preference to share investment risk. This is positive news for making?large-scale real estate ventures more attractive and feasible. 3. Under ￡25m Transaction Preference: ?There was a strategic focus on transactions under $25M, but there was a clear rise in medium and large deal activity. The study underscores the increasing alignment of real estate strategies with global sustainability goals. For investors, this means adapting to demands for measurable social and environmental outcomes, while staying competitive in a landscape shaped by collaboration and innovation. These findings reaffirm the importance of rethinking how real estate operates within the investment ecosystem. Office Tuesday Selling your office property to lower risk could be a compelling reason to make the move, even if it means accepting a lower price than originally desired. Using the sunk cost model, investors recognize that past investments (or sunk costs) should not dictate future decisions. Not understanding this and incorporating it is one of the biggest obstacles to having success.
