Hello Cyber Explorers, and LinkedIn Colleagues, Just back from the AFCEA International Rocky Mountain Chapter Cyberspace Symposium in the beautiful city of Colorado Springs... and wow, what an experience! It was a blast connecting with current and former L3Harris Technologies peers like Jon Walsh and Noel Tetreault, building new relationships with amazing cybersecurity professionals, diving into hands-on labs, and getting inspired by the latest tech talks and vendor demonstrations. One of the coolest parts? Watching high schoolers tackle robotic challenges on opening day. These kids are the future of tech, and they've got skills! shout out to Pikes Peak Robotics and Deloitte. A key takeaway from the event was Brig. Gen. Devin Pepper's talk on the Space Force's cyber ambitions. The goal? To beef up their cyber squadrons with help from the tech industry and make sure the U.S. stays a step ahead in space security. It’s a big task, but with the right minds and tech, it’s totally doable. This symposium wasn't just educational; it was a reminder of the fun and innovation at the heart of cybersecurity and space exploration. Let's keep pushing the boundaries, learning from each other, and inspiring the next gen. Here’s to more adventures in tech! #RMCS24 #cybersecurity #technology

#road2DAUINPhDDay ? In view of the next edition of the DAUIN PhD Day (Nov. 6, 2024), we present the research activity of the PhD students in Computer and Control Engineering - 37th and 38th cycles. Join the PhD Day to discuss with them at poster sessions! ???Gabriele Gatti: Automatic Analysis of Cybersecurity Risks The research aims at developing methodologies for the collection and evaluation of cyber risk related information so that companies with low technical skills and resources can understand their exposure to cyber threats. The research started with the development of an automated system that can collect publicly available information, assign it a score and aggregate these evaluations into summarizing indexes for ease of comprehension. The current focus is on the validation of the scoring system and the exploration of how AI can support this process. ?? https://lnkd.in/eaKgdNwj

Three researchers in the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University have received grant awards under the Defense Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research, or DEPSCoR, from the U.S. Department of Defense. As part of the program, the U.S. DOD awarded $17.6 million to 27 academic teams to pursue engineering research relevant to the nation’s science and technology missions. ASU was one of only three universities to receive multiple awards. Adil Ahmad, Rakibul Hasan and Nakul Gopalan, faculty members in the School of Computing and Augmented Intelligence, part of the Fulton Schools, will each receive up to $600,000 over a three-year period to pursue research in cybersecurity, cyber deception and artificial intelligence solutions in robotics. https://lnkd.in/gwUWPx7X #ASUResearch #Cybersecurity #ArtificialIntelligence

Space is hard. Things go wrong. ? Operating spacecraft is difficult. Most orbital passes last only minutes and being able to command a #spacecrraft during that time is challenging. ? The last couple of months, I’ve been working a cool project to allow anyone to play a simulation of what it’s like to #operate spacecraft - a space cyber game. We have a competition coming up in May for anyone in Canberra to test out their teamwork and #cyber skills in a hackathon-styled workshop! All while controlling a virtual #satellite from your laptop…??? If you are interested in space, sign up for free today and visit the website below!! ?? #cybergame #space #university #canberra Nominal Systems
Did you know that Canberra crafts two-thirds of Australia's spacecraft? With space exploration soaring, safeguarding spacecraft against cyber threats is paramount. Join Nominal Systems and FifthDomain on Thursday 2nd of May in a Capture The Flag (CTF) challenge highlighting cyber security's importance in space, spotlighting Canberra's role. Targeted towards recent graduates and current students studying IT, cyber security, or space technologies and cyber enthusiasts, the half-day event is supported by the ACT Government and brings together industry leaders, government representatives and competition participants interested in exploring the fusion of space and cyber security. Participants engage in training within an online space simulation and a CTF challenge exploring real-world spacecraft cyber security breaches. This event offers hands-on experience with Nominal System’s software and FifthDomain’s platform, allowing participants to design and test space missions while uncovering vulnerabilities to cyber threats. This is a free event. Register now: https://loom.ly/BHM2b7c

??**7 Days Biggest Cyber Attacks Challenge: Day 2 - NASA Cyber Attack** ??? Welcome to Day 2 of my "7 Days Biggest Cyber Attacks Challenge"! Today, we're exploring an incredible event from 1999 when a teenager managed to hack into NASA's computers, causing significant disruption. ?? **NASA Cyber Attack**: In 1999, 15-year-old James Jonathan achieved what many would think impossible – he hacked into NASA's computer systems and shut them down for 21 days. This attack led to around 1.7 million software downloads, causing extensive chaos and costing NASA approximately $41,000 in repairs. ?? **Impact**: The attack highlighted vulnerabilities in even the most sophisticated systems and underscored the growing threat of cyber-attacks. The downtime affected various NASA operations, emphasizing the importance of robust cybersecurity measures. ?? **Key Takeaways**: 1. **Vulnerability Assessments**: Regularly conduct vulnerability assessments to identify and mitigate weaknesses in your systems. 2. **Incident Response Plan**: Have a strong incident response plan in place to quickly address and recover from cyber-attacks. 3. **Youth Awareness**: The attack by a teenager underscores the need for cybersecurity education and awareness among younger generations. The NASA Cyber Attack of 1999 serves as a stark reminder that no system is immune to cyber threats. It emphasizes the critical need for continuous improvement in cybersecurity practices. Stay tuned for Day 3, where we'll uncover another significant cyber attack and its lessons! #CyberSecurity #TechHistory #NASA #StaySafeOnline #CyberAwareness #BiggestCyberAttacks #hacking #cyberAttack #tech
