And the course will highlight several themes of study including power and oppression, joy and resilience, social movement and resistance, human movement and interactions, and contributions and expressions over various time periods throughout history, although the emphasis will be on the 2000s to present day. Chicago Public Schools (CPS) have seen significant positive outcomes in their implementation of?#restorativepractices?#restorativejustice What we at CSC found compelling:?? - The positive outcomes were NOT because of “mechanical” changes, like a simple change to their discipline response or code of conduct. The robust use of Restorative Practices was the driver of positive outcomes. - Equally important, the reduction in suspensions did NOT result in increased in-school-suspension, classroom disruption,?or poorer academic performance. Flex-based, personalized-learning public charter schools are transforming education in California, meeting the diverse needs of students through innovative, flexible models. These schools, often mislabeled as "nonclassroom-based," offer a lifeline to students who struggle in traditional settings—those bullied, with health challenges, learning disabilities, or at risk of dropping out. Schools like Learn4Life serve economically disadvantaged students and those with special needs, helping them achieve academic recovery and pursue higher education. Despite challenges from misclassification and bad actors, it's crucial that state policies support and expand these flexible learning opportunities for all students. The Education system should be a priority, not only in NC but across the country. Hundreds of our best educators have left or are on their way out the door. Even more startling, fewer students than ever are enrolled in Colleges of Education nationwide or in NC. Teachers make an impact. They are the foundation of all learning. A career in teaching should earn the highest compensation.

This vision should also be the purpose of public elementary and high schools. The social forces tearing apart public schools are largely generated via Higher Education.
