Energy Positive: These buildings offset their construction, demolition, and operational energy costs by generating more energy than they consume over their lifetimes. For example, in the Nordic summer, they produce excess solar power that feeds into surrounding homes and businesses. ? Going Beyond Net Zero: Advances in technology and stricter green-building laws are inspiring developers to aim higher—creating structures that positively contribute to energy and carbon cycles. ?? You should read this ??? Did you know that today, the 12th of April, is the Earth Overshoot Day for Finland and Norway? This means that both countries now have exceeded their ecological resources and services in a given year of what Earth can regenerate in that year. This is achieved when liquidating stocks of ecological resources and accumulating waste, and with that emitting GHG, primarily carbon dioxide, into the atmosphere. Yet, this is also a day when I can proudly say that I work for a company that is part of the solution. Happy International Day of Climate Action! Today we want to show our commitment to our decarbonisation goals. We are well on our way to fighting global warming across all scopes of our emissions. Have a look at some green achievements from 2023: Scope 1 emissions: ???? Our plasterboard plant in Corfinio, Italy, has installed an automated energy tracking tool. ?? We have been reducing the CO2 impact of cement in our European fibre cement factories, with actions underway in France and the Netherlands, aiming for over 30% reduction by 2030. ? We implemented 277 concrete energy efficiency actions at our plants worldwide to reduce immediate energy consumption and associated emissions. Scope 2 emissions: ?? We installed new solar installations in Altona, Australia, and Vitry-en-Charollais, France to generate more renewable electricity. ? Despite several acquisitions, we could maintain our share of renewable electricity at 60.9%. Scope 3 emissions: ?? We moved to environmentally responsible sourcing methods and introduced reuse and recycling after the use phase. To enhance engagement, we committed to the global Science Based Target initiative (SBTi), planning to set our goals in the near future and align our emission reduction targets to their standards. The environmentally friendly energy transition is one of the central challenges facing our and future generations. At TenneT, we take on responsibility of ensuring that the expansion and modernization of our grid is compatible with nature and landscapes. Our commitment to nature is to keep the impact on the environment and biodiversity to a minimum and to protect and improve local nature. ? Environmental planning services such as ecological surveys, mapping, as well as initial assessments form the basis for the preparation of approval documents. These, in turn, mark the starting point for further activities, such as route planning, underscoring its significance. ? Transmission System Operators (TSOs) and Distribution Network Operators (DSOs) face similar challenges: all of them require support of environmental planning offices to find environmentally friendly solutions for grid expansion. As a consequence of speeding-up the energy transition, strong demand is coming up against the limited number of suppliers. The markets have become tighter. ? Here's a simplified breakdown of our achievement: ?? We have successfully awarded environmental planning services for all projects from the NEP 2037/2045, in the AC Onshore area. ?? We are proud to partner with 12 suppliers. ?? We are excited to announce, that we will receive support in 14 projects from start to finish. That cannot be taken for granted with a view to the long project duration. The journey towards climate neutrality can only be achieved through joint action.
