I'm hiring a Software Developer, but there's a problem. It has been 24 hours since I posted the job on LinkedIn, and there are more than 500 applications. I didn't expect this many applications; thanks for your interest. But there's a huge problem. I don't have that much time to interview each one of them. This is a problem for each job application, not just this one. When you apply for a job, you must consider how to 'differentiate' from others. When the hiring manager checks your resume, you must have relevant skills for the job and many more. Consider these when you apply for a job next time to get an interview: a. Customize your resume for the job application if you can. b. Send a message on LinkedIn, or send an email. c. If you have a mutual connection, ask for a referral. d. If you have a blog or YouTube channel, include it in your resume.(We're hiring for a Salesforce blogger also) e. Think how you can be different than others in this difficult job market. Unfortunately. ______________ That's all for today. If you enjoyed today's post, please ?? reshare it with your network. Do you want to see more content like this? Helping people PIVOT into their next business venture! || Over 800 Franchise Brands || Founder @ Pivot Franchise Advisors
“None of these people are going to work out.” I recently spoke with a manager at a large professional affiliation with branches across the country. They needed to hire someone who could bridge the gap between their association management software and Salesforce. This person would be building a product and then travel to dozens of branches across the country and train members on using Salesforce. But their internal TA team could only find people with the AMS experience, but none of those people knew their way around Salesforce. Which wouldn’t be enough: the job really did need someone with a foot in both worlds. And they spent months looking with no results. Which meant that none of the association’s members were getting the Salesforce training that the association wanted to deliver. I see this a lot: it’s easy enough to find someone with AMS experience through normal recruiting channels or by posting job ads on LinkedIn and Indeed. Same thing for a Salesforce Admin or Developer: there are plenty of good ones out there. But finding someone who can do both? That’s a lot harder. And that’s what we do for companies: Go out and talk with dozens, sometimes hundreds of candidates to find that one or two people with that unique skillset. Something that a TA team at a 5000-person company just doesn’t have time to do.?

Helping people PIVOT into their next business venture! || Over 800 Franchise Brands || Founder @ Pivot Franchise Advisors
The best developers might not want to work for your company. “I don’t even want to work there. They keep hitting me up about admin positions” I’ve heard something similar from a number of Salesforce developers lately. Before they really hear much about the job. Or the company. Or find out whether they would click with the team. Their mind is already made up. Not because these companies are bad places to work. Or because it’s not the right opportunity for them. But recruiters keep reaching out to these developers about entry-level admin positions over and over again… It makes it clear that the recruiter doesn’t really do any homework beyond searching for the word “Salesforce” in a resume or LinkedIn profile. The company’s reputation is ruined with the professionals who could be helping them add significant revenue by optimizing the way they use Salesforce. Because a recruiter who doesn’t know anything about a Salesforce career beyond looking for that keyword keeps reaching out about jobs to the wrong people. A good recruiter doesn’t just find you the right Salesforce developer… They protect your reputation with every future Salesforce pro you might need to bring on to your team.

Recruitment Director - Connecting enterprise business software professionals with benchmark employers | Tampa, FL & Cambridge, UK
“Software Developers are the only people who should work in Salesforce” ? ? I’m paraphrasing from a comment on one of my recent posts. Many people share this opinion, and I can empathize with it, even if I don’t 100% agree. ? The Salesforce ecosystem is more complex now than a year ago and a software development background is a huge advantage. Certifications alone aren’t enough; you need broad technical capability gained through hands-on experience. ? However, we risk missing what makes Salesforce so successful. The thing that Salesforce does better than anyone else: attracting creative people. ? Creative people who present different solutions to problems. People who innovate and share ideas. ? I am not suggesting that Software Developers aren’t creative. Development is a creative outlet for the imagination of many Salesforce Developers. They are experts because of their curiosity. We all want to work with these creative experts. ? But just as not every creative person can understand data structures and algorithms, not every software developer is curious and creative. Skills can be taught, but everyone has different aptitudes. ? It’s important not to be too prescriptive. If you do the same thing as everyone else, you will get the same outcomes. Identify what is most important to you. Then recruit the right people for your organization. ? Do you agree that the Salesforce ecosystem does a great job attracting creative people? Do you worry that might change?
