22-Month Journey with Castlelyons Hurling
Our journey with Castlelyons Hurling came to an end last night, and this morning, while mourning the loss, I find myself reflecting on how incredible the experience has been and how grateful I am to have been part of it.
This has been a story of transformation—from a team struggling to close out tight games (lost 3 county finals) to one that won a county final in the last minute, battled through two extra-time victories (including a 26-penalty shootout two weeks ago), went all the way to Croke Park, and came close to reaching a final in the next grade up.
But this journey has been about more than just results. It’s about the energy that's created by individuals coming together to be the best version of themselves while inspiring the same in others. Some of the strongest leaders weren’t always on the pitch, but their commitment to creating a culture of accountability and unity ensured that no one was left behind. Over these 22 months, players, management, and supporters got married, changed jobs, had children, suffered losses, built pitches, traveled thousands of miles to make matches, and sacrificed endlessly in pursuit of a shared purpose. You won't achieve much in a week but if you consistently turn up you can achieve an awful lot in 22 months!
Yesterday was just another step in the ongoing journey of this club. This team knows how to win, how to handle pressure, and how to lead. I’m proud to have been part of this remarkable chapter, and I know the future is bright for everyone associated with this club.
