???? Honoring Veterans Day with Purpose and Legacy This weekend, we honor the service members among us and pay respect to their sacrifices. As a Marine veteran, a husband, and a father, Veterans Day holds a unique meaning for me. When I first left the Marines in 2007, I didn’t want to be recognized as a veteran. To many of us, service isn’t a badge of honor—it’s just a part of our past. Yet, no matter how far behind us it seems, the questions remain: Did it matter? And why? For me, service mattered because it strengthened us to live better, fuller lives—to become better parents, partners, and human beings. Veterans carry a complex toolbox of experiences, each one shaping us in ways we may not yet fully understand. Many veterans come home but, in some ways, never truly feel home. Instead of “thank you for your service,” consider saying, “Welcome home.” Those words might be the first step in their journey back to their family, and back to themselves. For me, being a veteran is about using the tools my service gave me to build a life worthy of those who didn’t make it back. It’s about creating a legacy, a family so strong it makes its own mark. As Steve Jobs said, “We are here to put a dent in the universe.” My hope is that, someday, people will see that dent and know it was left by the Killoy's. On this Veterans Day, I challenge you to see veterans as an inspiration for the life and legacy you want to create—a life filled with adventure, depth, community, and family. Build something that reaches beyond your years and well beyond the years of service we give. This is how we honor veterans on Veterans Day. Today, we pause to honor and express our deepest gratitude to all who have served in the United States Armed Forces. Veterans Day is not just a date on the calendar; it's a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made by brave men and women to protect our freedoms and way of life. To our veterans: Your unwavering dedication, courage, and selflessness have shaped the very foundation of our nation. You've stood on the front lines, far from home, ensuring that we can live in peace and prosperity. Your service embodies the highest ideals of duty, honor, and country. As we reflect on the significance of this day, let's remember that our veterans deserve more than just our thanks – they deserve our ongoing support and recognition. Whether it's through volunteering at local VA hospitals, supporting veteran-owned businesses, or simply taking the time to listen to their stories, there are countless ways we can show our appreciation. To the employers and colleagues of veterans: Let's continue to create inclusive workplaces that value the unique skills and perspectives that veterans bring to our teams. Their leadership, discipline, and ability to perform under pressure are invaluable assets in any organization. Today, I encourage everyone to take a moment to reach out to a veteran in your life – a family member, friend, or colleague – and express your gratitude. Share a story of how their service has impacted you or simply say, "Thank you for your service." These small gestures can mean the world to those who have given so much. Let's not limit our appreciation to just one day. Veterans Day serves as a powerful reminder to honor and support our veterans throughout the year. Their legacy of loyalty and service continues to inspire us all. To all veterans: Thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and for being the embodiment of true American heroes. Your contributions will never be forgotten. #VeteransDay #HonorOurHeroes

1.14 million. It's the population of Baltimore, MD and Albuquerque, NM combined. Taylor Swift sold that many copies of her album Midnights. It's the number of millionaires living in California. Also, according to the Veterans Administration, the estimate of the number of servicemembers lost in conflicts fought by the United States. On one hand, it is altogether fitting that we should dedicate a day to remember and honor those that made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our country and our allies. On the other hand, the immensity of this number and the loss it encompasses is staggering. Tragic. For each servicemember counted, there are family members and friends, platoon-, ship-, and squadron-mates that are impacted by these losses. Often for the rest of their lives. Those impacts far outlive the length of time one may know the servicemember that didn't make it home. It is certainly true for me, and I know I am not alone in this amongst my colleagues. There is often a fusion of Memorial Day and Veteran's Day in people's minds. Simply put, it is never a bad time to thank a veteran for their service, but Memorial Day isn't for those of us that remain. There is also the tendency to focus on celebrating the start of summer instead of remembering the original reason for the holiday. This is not to say we shouldn't enjoy time with family and friends. Quite the opposite. There few better ways to honor a sacrifice than celebrating what it provides. Only a humble request to add something simple to your agenda. During this time off and all the benefits to mind, body and spirit that it hopefully gives to you, consider taking a moment or two to reflect, in whatever manner you choose, on the purpose for and significance of the Memorial Day holiday

Veterans Day is a day of deep significance, honoring the courage and dedication of those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. It is a moment to pause and reflect on the sacrifices made by individuals who put their lives on the line to protect the freedoms we enjoy as a country. As a retired First Sergeant (1SG), this day is especially meaningful, as it reminds me of the countless brothers and sisters I served alongside – men and women whose strength, resilience, and commitment created bonds that are unbreakable and lasting. The bonds formed in service run deeper than words; they are forged in shared challenges, triumphs, and moments of vulnerability, creating a family that extends far beyond the uniform; a family for life.? Veterans Day is not just a commemoration; it is a testament to the loyalty, unity, and resilience that define service to our country. ? To me, Veterans Day holds immense importance as it embodies gratitude and remembrance, a chance to honor those who served and those who continue to serve. It’s a day that reinforces the sense of family forged through shared challenges and triumphs; a bond that remains even after the uniform is set aside. It is a moment to honor their stories, reflect on our shared legacy, and reaffirm that our commitment to each other and to this country endures beyond the uniform. This day celebrates the bonds of a family that service creates – one marked by loyalty, trust, and a deep, unyielding respect. Veterans Day is a reminder that our commitment to each other and to the values we defended is lifelong, symbolizing respect, appreciation, and an enduring pledge to never forget. ? 11 | 11 | 2024 – Veterans Day #veteransday #leadership #legacy #service #servantleadership #loyalty #duty #respect #selflessservice #honor #integrity #personalcourage

Not Just a Label: The Power of Being a Veteran Labels. We encounter them every day - some given to us, some we assign to ourselves. But have you ever stopped to think about the labels that truly define us, the ones we actively choose to embrace and embody? As a veteran, I've come to realize that being labeled as such isn't just a title bestowed upon us; it's a conscious decision we make to take action, to serve, to sacrifice, and to protect. It's a label that encompasses a wealth of experiences, skills, and values that shape who we are and how we navigate the world around us. Unfortunately, many outside of the military will not take the time to try and understand them. (I am not suggesting it's their responsibility to do so.) What sets the label of a veteran apart is that it's not merely a description of what we've done; it's a reflection of who we are at our core. It signifies a commitment to something greater than ourselves, a dedication to duty, honor, and country. But beyond the uniform and the accolades, being a veteran is about the intangible qualities that define our character - resilience in the face of adversity, leadership in times of uncertainty, and a deep sense of camaraderie that binds us together as a community. So, the next time you hear the label "veteran," I encourage you to see beyond the surface and recognize the depth of experience and strength that lies beneath. It's not just a title; it's a testament to the values we hold dear and the actions we've taken to uphold them. To my fellow veterans: Wear the label proudly, for it is a symbol of your unwavering commitment and the legacy you continue to build every day. #Veteran #ProudToServe #MilitaryCommunity #Labels #Identity #Strength #Leadership
