I had a lot of mixed feelings, I was so scared that I even didn't want to join the Slack channel. I had to put on a brave face and ensure that I didn't give up without a fight. ?????? ?????? ????????????????????? The HNG Internship program is known for its intensive and hands-on approach to training designers and developers. By participating in this program, I would gain a wealth of knowledge and experience that will be instrumental in my growth as a Product Designer. The program's structure is designed to challenge participants and push them toward excellence, which aligns perfectly with my career aspirations. ?????? ?????? ???????????????????? ???????? ???????????? ???? ?????????????? ???????????? ???????????? ? Skills Development: Like Mark Essien the co-founder of HNG would always say HNG Internship would not teach you how to design but instead would make you a better designer. ? Building a Robust Portfolio: Working on a variety of projects during the internship will allow me to build a diverse portfolio that showcases my versatility and creativity as a designer. ?Collaboration and Networking: HNG Internship is one of the largest internship programs with over 10,000 interns. I am starting as a designer all over again! (Hypothetically of course) But if I were to enter the design industry today all over again, I'd do this: ??Internships for good 6-12 months: Internships in good companies that have even great design teams. Your focus here should be on grasping core knowledge and receiving critique and feedback. ?? Find a new startup that needs a designer: A new startup is like a fresh slate. It doesn't matter if you're the sole designer. You'd have a playground to apply all of the knowledge you garnered during the internship phase. Think about it. If I were you, I'd work on building my design team now. ??Find your BIG opportunity: By now, you have ample experience. You're ready for the breakthrough. The internship spanned from May 23, 2023, to July 12, 2023. During this insightful journey, I delved into various aspects of product design, gaining valuable experiences and insights that will undoubtedly shape my future endeavors. Here are the key takeaways from my internship: ?? Product Development: I honed my skills in the end-to-end process of product development, encompassing strategic planning, brainstorming, execution, and market release, followed by evaluating its success. ?? Value: Understanding the measurement of product value was crucial, helping me gauge the effectiveness of a product in solving customer problems, pricing it appropriately, and identifying areas for improvement. ?? Market Research: I immersed myself in the intricacies of market research, learning how to assess the viability of a new product or service by directly engaging with potential customers, defining target markets, and gathering valuable feedback. ?? Product Ideation: I developed expertise in gathering, prioritizing, and implementing ideas to enhance product or service offerings, ensuring a continuous focus on innovation. ?? Concept Design: The early phase of product development, where I explored various aspects such as user experience, usability, styling, and technology to lay out the general concept of a product. ?? 3D Design & Modeling: Leveraging 3D modeling technology, I acquired the ability to create realistic product prototypes with vivid details, surpassing the limitations of traditional photographs.
