Today marks a pivotal moment in history as we commemorate the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), signed into law on July 26, 1990. This landmark legislation was a catalyst for change, prohibiting discrimination against individuals with disabilities and ensuring equal access to employment, public accommodations, transportation, and government services. The ADA transformed our society, making workplaces, public spaces, and services more accessible and inclusive for people with disabilities. It promotes independence, dignity, and equal rights for all. Let's celebrate by honoring the achievements of the ADA, advocating for continued progress, and fostering a more inclusive world where every person, regardless of ability, can thrive. #ADA31 #DisabilityRights #WorkplaceInclusion #InclusiveLeadership #DEI #LeadershipEvolution #DiversityEquityAndInclusion #Diversity #Culture #BeyondInclusion #BeyondInclusionGroup #WorkplaceCulture

What does Labor Day truly mean for every American worker? Today, we celebrate all workers, including those with disabilities, who enrich our workforce with their unique talents. The Employment First principle asserts that everyone, regardless of their disabilities, should have the opportunity to work and thrive. This commitment goes beyond belief; it’s about action. We recognize that individuals with disabilities make meaningful contributions and are dedicated to providing the necessary supports to help them succeed. When someone expresses a desire to work, our response should always be, “How can I assist you in achieving that?” Let’s continue to share our stories. How do you support individuals with disabilities in your organization? #EmploymentFirst #LaborDay #Inclusion #Diversity #WorkplaceEquity

Here are some more important ways to be more inclusive and create a world where diversity is celebrated and valued. 1. Be an Ally – Creating accessible workplace features such as ramps, adjustable desks, and braille signage fosters an environment where individuals of all abilities feel empowered and valued. 2. Create Inclusive Spaces - Practices like offering virtual meeting options and using inclusive language, ensure that individuals with disabilities have equal opportunities to engage and contribute. #BeanAlly #CreateInclusiveSpaces #BusinessinclusionanddiversityservicesACT #BeInclusive Australian Federation of Disability Organisations (AFDO) Business Inclusion and Diversity Services (BIDS) - ACT

Nothing is better than the first ever CAO's report to enlighten a snowy day! Thank you Stephanie Cadieux and Office of the Chief Accessibility Officer/ Bureau de la dirigeante principale de l'accessibilité for your dedicated work! What I have learnt from this report are: - #Accessibility in Canada is everyone' business - It’s critical that we change attitudes and perceptions of people with disabilities, and make accessibility a key societal value, not just a nice-to-have. - We need conversations about accessibility to become organisational priorities. - Accessibility is not a short-term or optional investment. It is a must-have that benefits all. - Disabilities by themselves do not hinder a person’s full and equal participation in society. Instead, it is the interaction of that disability with a barrier that affects their full participation. This shift puts the responsibility on society to be barrier-free. - Building awareness is a key part of culture change and is critical to removing barriers. It is the first step in making Canada barrier-free. - #Buildingawareness starts with listening and asking questions, from a place of genuine curiosity. - Becoming an ally to #PwDs is another way individuals can help build awareness of b arriers. #Allyship can help amplify PwDs voices and experiences while championing a cultural shift that makes accessibility everyone’s concern. - Mandatory #accessibilitytraining involving PwDs, customized to its audience, offered repeatedly across all business lines and at all levels is critical to build a sense of collective responsibility. - Accessible air travel is the CAO's focus in the months ahead. Committments from national strategies reflected in the accessibility plans and progress reports of large federally regulated air carriers are expected. Collective efforts from any individual or organizations that plays a role in the air travel experience for PwDs are needed to make a change for the better now. - Where possible, preventing barriers before they become an issue is more effective than removing them after the fact. - We need data to learn about the unique and complex lived experiences of PwDs, especially when making decisions #disabilityawareness #disabilityinclusion
