Show everything by showing less. ?? There’s a common mistake made when some hoteliers photograph their own spaces, and that is to try to show too much. The widest-angle lens on a phone or camera tends to be the default choice for hospitality images, with the intention of getting as much of the room in as possible. This can have the effect of making small rooms look distorted, and large rooms look underwhelming. ?? The trick is to reveal just enough. You don’t have to show three walls. Viewers will assume all walls are in place. No need to prove it! Next time you’re immortalising your spaces, try this; use the standard lens on your phone or camera. Start in too close then gradually zoom back until you’re showing every detail that matters but not all of that detail! You just need to show a slice of something and the viewer can fill in the rest. ?? This way your image will have more impact, as a standard lens will also have the effect of bringing items in the background forward without sacrificing the ‘this is a big room’ outcome. What is the usual pattern your guests follow when they arrive at your hotel? It probably goes something like this: check in, go to room, unpack, nap, then head downstairs to check out the bar and restaurant. ??????
