I've always appreciated Edwin Olson's intellect. He was an outstanding teacher/professor at University of Michigan because he can explain complex technology and issues in an understandable, succinct way. This is a great clip, Brandon Bartneck. Ed summarizes some of our transit issues with a few simple points which also steers us to potential automated mobility solutions. The points: (paraphrased) 1. People don't like riding buses, so most don't 2. Buses are very expensive to operate, especially if not used enough 3. People want a simple solution. Call a "car". Car takes me to my destination. (a form of micro-transit) 4. Challenge with that micro-transit model is there are not enough drivers 5. 1 potential solution: affordable AVs (reminder...we're not trying to bring AVs to the world because they are cool...we're doing it because they are needed) #autonomousvehicles #automatedmobility
