Friendship isn’t just something that happens—it’s something we practice. Last week I was in Barcelona for a YPO global meeting where I met fellow speaker, Chip Conley. While walking along the beach we had a deep discussion about this very concept. Chip challenges us to think of friendship like we do fitness or personal growth: with intention, effort, and consistency. When we shift our mindset, we start treating friendships as something to nurture, not just something that exists. The same applies to business relationships. Strong professional connections aren’t built overnight—they require trust, consistency, and genuine engagement. Whether it’s with colleagues, clients, or mentors, the best business relationships are cultivated with the same care we give to friendships. Real connection isn’t about collecting contacts; it’s about building deep, meaningful relationships. It’s about showing up for others, listening, and adding value without expecting something in return. True connection transcends business—it’s about trust, shared experiences, and mutual support. Ways to Practice Both Personal and Professional Relationships: ??Show up consistently—send that text, make that call, plan that meet-up. ??Be vulnerable—share not just the wins, but the struggles too. ??Give generously—support, celebrate, and listen. ??Create rituals—annual trips, weekly check-ins, shared hobbies. Friendship and business relationships aren’t passive—they’re investments in a richer, more connected life. Let’s make them a practice. #Friendship #Connection #DeepRelationships Modern Elder Academy Dan Mack Anthony Pigliacampo
