For years, industrial gases have been used in the food industry. Gases such as #Nitrogen and #CarbonDioxide have been traditionally used in almost every part of the food industry supply chain – from preservation to packaging. Recently, the use of these important gases has been a crucial factor in how food can be cryogenically frozen to meet ever higher consumer standards around the quality of their foodstuffs at the point of purchase. #Oxygen is increasingly looked at as the world adapts to climate change and new regulatory standards that seek to limit the impact of greenhouse gases used in almost every industry. It goes without saying that the food industry has had to adapt to changes, and, in turn, industrial gas suppliers like #BUSE and the technology they develop has had to offer environmentally safer alternatives to traditional products. Whilst environmental factors contribute to technology development and the use of industrial gases in the food industry, the main drivers are efficiency, lower costs for producers, and the overall quality of the food product at the point of sale. This comes down to one more factor itself – improving the shelf life of food products. If your business wants to lower its costs, improve quality, sustainability and lower your carbon ?? #SpeakWithTheExperts #TheHomeOfGases #JoinTheConversation ?? +44 (0) 121 524 1111 ?? "Hydro Pressure + Pack: A Pioneering Approach to Combatting Food Waste in the US" Annually, the United States sees a staggering 38% of its food go to waste, translating to a loss of approximately $444 billion. Hydro Pressure + Pack, a venture based in Ohio, is tackling this issue with an innovative technology aimed at prolonging food freshness and minimizing waste. Emerging from Innovation Food Services, which caters to educational institutions and care facilities, Hydro Pressure + Pack is revolutionizing the way food is preserved. Their technique involves utilizing high-pressure processing to seal food effectively. The company acknowledges that while freezing food maintains its condition, it can detract from the food's flavor. Troy Hall, the Vice President of Operations at Innovation Food Services, highlights the method's effectiveness in eliminating bacteria without the need for preservatives, promising a significant reduction in food waste and the capability to distribute fresh food across the country. Hall is optimistic about the technology's potential impact, stating, "We expect this technology to take off." For those looking to extend the freshness of food at home without resorting to such advanced methods, simple strategies exist. Storing fruits and vegetables in appropriate containers can markedly extend their shelf life. Moreover, planning meals ahead can prevent over-purchasing and the subsequent issue of expired food items, contributing to waste reduction efforts on an individual level. #FoodWasteSolution #HydroPressurePack #SustainableEating #FreshFoodInnovation #WasteReductionTech

Our goal is to design and produce innovative, cost-effective, compostable and/or recyclable food packages based on active bioplastics and cellulosic materials. Trays, flexible films and absorbing pads will be developed using underexploited marine residues from seaweeds and agroindustrial wastes as well as antimicrobial enzymes, thus considering a circular economy strategy, to reduce food waste and improve food safety in the Mediterranean food supply chain. New technologies can play an important role in curbing food waste. The European Consumer Food Waste Forum, managed by the Joint Research Centre, recommended to anchor the use of smart food technologies into the Food to Consumers (FIC) Regulation, the legislation governing date markings. The FIC regulation was due for revision in late 2023 but has seen its review postponed. Whilst preparations for the revisions are ongoing, this is an opportunity for #smartfoodtechnologies to carve their space in the legislation. Acting on the Forum's recommendation could ensure that they can deliver on their potential. ?? You can know more by clicking on this link: https://lnkd.in/eSKE8hr8 #foodwaste #innovations?
