If you missed the broadcast, click here for the white paper co-authored with Kelly Bennett at B3 Insight: https://lnkd.in/gq6fJ7h5 “If we don’t do any reuse, we are going to have too much produced water,” he said. “In 2029, if we don’t drill enough, we’re going to be running out of disposal capacity.” Even if more disposal capacity is drilled, Bloennigen said he expects the Permian market will become tighter. “That’s why we especially think that the water-handling costs are going to continue to increase as we have seen over the last few years,” he said. According to Bloennigen, this dynamic has changed how operators are thinking about produced water. “Water used to be more of an afterthought,” considered only after the oil and gas strategy had been developed, he said. “Now water will have to be part of the oil and gas development.” #oil #gas #water #sustainability #producedwater #reuse #disposal

?? We hit a BIG milestone last week, kicking off the construction phase of Ekona Gold Creek! ?? Program manager, Saeed Davari, and Operations lead, Christopher Bronicheski, were onsite at the ARC Resources Ltd. Gold Creek Natural Gas Plant in Grande Prairie, Alberta for the kick-off. This operational gas plant is where we’re building a 1 TPD field demonstration to evaluate Ekona’s methane pyrolysis solution for clean hydrogen production. We are working to complete construction and commissioning in 2025. Ekona Gold Creek is an important next step on our path to commercialization, validating Ekona's value proposition in a real-world setting and informing subsequent commercial plant deployments. Ekona’ solution is deployable wherever there is natural gas infrastructure and delivers clean hydrogen and solid carbon to #decarbonize Canadian industry, without the need to rely on CCS infrastructure, clean electricity, or water feedstock. There’s no doubt in my mind that we have a tremendous opportunity in front of us today to not only change the lives and industries of the people in and around the Permian Basin but around the world! The insightful discussions around the challenges of treating #ProducedWater in the #PermianBasin at the Produced Water Society Conference in Midland brought forth the growing need for change. As a keynote speaker, I was able to dive into the critical imperative of bringing beneficial reuse to scale in this vital energy producing region. The volumes of water generated as a byproduct of the oil and gas operations continue to rise, putting increasing demand on the existing infrastructure and the environment. That’s why Bechtel Corporation’s work on our #LEEDS (Low Energy Ejector Desalination System) technology is so important. By developing cost-effective desalination capabilities, we can unlock new opportunities for water reuse and mineral extraction - creating economic and environmental benefits to industry. It was great to see industry leaders come together to tackle this complex challenge and I’m proud that we are able to be a part of charting the path toward a sustainable future.

#News MAY 02, 2024 PRESS RELEASE LAGAIP HYDRO PROJECT AIMS TO ENHANCE SUSTAINABLE ENERGY SUPPLY TO POGERA MINE In light of the recent meeting between the State and the Hides-Porgera Power Line landowners, I, as the local MP for Lagaip and also the leader for Porgera, would like to make it clear to all stake holders from Barrick Niugini Limited, Oil Search Limited, Santos, the National Government, and Hela & Enga Provincial Governments that we have Lagaip Hydro Project development in the pipeline to supplement existing power supply into Porgera mine. The people of Lagaip have long been spectators to the operations of the Porgera Mine, standing at the gateway to this significant economic venture for over 30 years. Despite that, there has been a notable absence of meaningful development or sustainable projects benefitting the local community. It is time for change. The people of Lagaip deserve better. The Lagaip Hydro Project offers a significant opportunity for the people of Lagaip to finally reap the benefits from the Porgera mine after many years. The Lagaip Hydro project was embarked on 9 years ago (before I became MP) by the Enga Provincial Government with the aim of supplying power to the Porgera Mine. Feasibility work and land owner payments have been completed and is only awaiting construction. "The Lagaip District Development Authority will in due time put forward a proposal to the Porgera Mine requesting it to become the off-taker of the power generated from the Lagaip Hydro Project". This initiative holds great promise for the community, with estimates projecting up to 20 megawatts of energy production and the potential for further expansion through Lagaip downstream hydro project. This should complement the existing 72 megawatts supplied by the Hides “Gas to Power” GTP into Porgera Mine. We'll continue to show progress as each step is being built.
