People take to the streets in protest over allegations of election fraud in Venezuela. Even uniformed officers were seen taking off their uniforms and not stopping the protesters who are pushing back against the supposed election of Maduro who the citizens believe perpetrated fraud in the election. The question is can this happen here in the United States of America? Is this a sign of what can happen when the people finally get fed up with the lies being fed to them by a government and leader they dispute was elected by them? Does this sound at least a little bit familiar? What precautions can we take to ensure this does not happen here? Let’s at least start the conversation and see how people feel and what they think.
Atlas News on Instagram: "Venezuelan protesters have started to topple statues of former President and leader of the United #Socialist Party Hugo Chávez as demonstrations against the results of this weekend’s presidential election continue to intensify across the country. #Venezuela’s opposition has rejected the results after electoral authorities declared President Nicolás #Maduro the winner in S

Since when is it ok to strike a police officer? Perception is everything… and the perception in this case is not good. What is the message being sent when police make an arrest and then release the person because the mob demands it? The law is clear… Political protests in Canada become illegal when they infringe upon existing laws, such as those regarding public safety, property damage, or obstruction of justice. Peaceful demonstrations are protected under Canadian law, but if they escalate into violence, vandalism, or other illegal activities, they can be deemed unlawful. #politicalprotest #ruleoflaw #perceptioniseverything

After the brutal use of police and other agencies for crackdown on peaceful protesters, excessive use of tear gas and rubber bullets, violent arrests and detainment without cause, police brutality during demonstrations, suppression of free speech and assembly, targeting of journalists, media personnel, and YouTubers, inappropriate use of force against unarmed civilians, unlawful raids and searches, intimidation and harassment of dissenters, retaliatory violence against political activists, and forced disappearances, Pakistani society is tearing apart. Now Kashmir and the rest of Pakistan are needed to foster true democracy and hold elections without rigging.

"It is not about playing a game of chess. It is about investing in human beings." Chair of the Criminal Bar Association Tana Adkin KC telling Skynewsuk.com the 24/7 idea for opening criminal courts "almost laughable" due to "decades and decades of underfunding" in the criminal justice system. Of course the criminal barristers left, in particular to prosecute and defend rape and other serious sexual offence cases, have been working 24/7 for decades just to keep an underfunded, crumbling criminal justice system from total collapse. CBA chair Tana Adkin KC told Skynewsuk.com “But is prioritising protest cases the right way to go when the problem in court backlogs is so much wider? She added "The principle that you deal with people as quickly as possible and get them out on bail [and] you set conditions so they don't go back onto the M25 and glue themselves to the road, the principle is fine. "But why should they have that while everyone else in the criminal justice system doesn't?" She also questioned the overall impact of protest cases on the courts, adding: "If you are putting pressure on a system that is already on its knees, it is obviously going to show up more clearly. "Our system should be perfectly able to deal with protesters as we have in the past. We have always had protests and the courts have always managed it. "I think when you are in strained times and you are dealing with a system that is, as I say, on its knees, that's when it is going to show up." There is a more practical element that could cause a headache for Lord Hogan-Howe's suggestion - running the actual courts. CBA chair Ms Adkin KC called the 24/7 idea "almost laughable" due to "decades and decades of underfunding" in the criminal justice system. Figures released by the CBA in 2022 showed 22% of barristers had left the profession since 2016 in protest at low pay for legal aid cases and a crumbling system as money-saving measures took their toll. "The whole shape of things has completely changed since 2011," she told Sky News. "Back then we had a lot more barristers than we do now. We're down to about 2,500 from 4,000 or 5,000 - at one stage we had 6,000 barristers. "But now we don't have enough people to do 24/7 courts, it would be impossible... asking people with families, people that are already on their knees, that we want even more from them." Image: Chair of the Criminal Bar Association, Tana Adkin KC. Pic: CBA And it isn't just about the barristers and the judges, the KC said. "It is the court staff, it's security staff, it is everybody being expected to do longer and longer hours for no extra pay or reward. "And because we have been beaten down for so long, all you would do is be driving more people away." She added: "It is not about playing a game of chess. It is about investing in human beings." https://lnkd.in/eEB4dM4i
Why should protesters get priority in our courts and go to the front of the backlog queue? 24/7 courts are unworkable when we don’t have enough people to prosecute and defend in normal operating hours. Sustained investment is what’s needed, in our Ceiminal Justice System and in the people who work in it. https://lnkd.in/eHnKf3zV
Should courts sit 24/7 for protest hearings - and will it tackle the backlog?

#ENDBADGOVERNANCE PROTEST: POLICE RELEASES RECORD OF INCIDENCES; SAYS NOT THIRTEEN LIVES LOST Refutes Amnesty International on Released Figures. The Nigeria Police Force finds it necessary to refute a recent report publicized by Amnesty International, which claims that thirteen (13) individuals have lost their lives due to the protests in Nigeria that began on 1st August 2024. Amnesty International further alleges that security personnel deliberately employed tactics designed to kill while managing gatherings and used firearms as a tactical tool for protest management. The Nigeria Police Force wishes to provide an accurate account of incidents from the first two (2) days of the nationwide protests. In Borno State, four (4) individuals lost their lives and thirty-four (34) were severely injured in a terrorist attack by suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP elements who infiltrated the crowd of protesters and detonated an Improvised Explosive Device (IED). Additionally, an incident occurred involving an unregistered Honda Prelude car that ran into the protesters, resulting in the deaths of two (2) civilians. The driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene. Although the vehicle was vandalized after the incident, it has been recovered and is currently in police custody. Efforts are ongoing to trace the driver and bring him to justice. There was another incident reported in Yauri, in Yauri Local Government Area of Kebbi State where a group of individuals mobilized to loot a shop. In the process, a local vigilante man shot and killed one of the looters. The Commissioner of Police in charge of Kebbi State is currently investigating the incident. This brings the total number of deaths recorded during the protests to seven (7). It is important to state that there were no other recorded fatalities during the protests apart from those mentioned above. However, incidences of armed robbery, arson, mischief, looting of public institutions and private businesses, destructions of both public and private property were recorded during the protest. Arrests were made with respect to these criminal incidences and a number of recoveries made from the suspects while the protest was going on. The Nigeria Police personnel deployed to manage the protests have acted professionally, refraining from using lethal weapons. In instances where protesters became riotous, the police employed teargas to disperse them. Even when our officers on lawful duty were attacked and injured, the police effected arrests using only teargas, demonstrating utmost restraint. #ENDBADGOVERNANCE PROTEST: POLICE RELEASES RECORD OF INCIDENCES; SAYS NOT THIRTEEN LIVES LOST More details at: https://lnkd.in/dCxvksSZ

??Police firing: When it is justified & When not...? ??Police use of deadly force is justified when the officer has "probable cause to believe that the suspect poses a threat of serious physical harm, either to the officer or to others". The use of force must be "objectively reasonable" based on the facts and circumstances known to the officer at the time. ??Factors to consider include the severity of the crime, whether the suspect poses an immediate threat, and whether the suspect is actively resisting or fleeing. ??Police firing should only be used as a last resort in situations where there is a serious threat to life and public safety that cannot be controlled by other means. ??The police firing is generally not justified in the following situations: 1) When arresting or detaining a suspect, unless the suspect poses an immediate threat of violence that cannot be contained by other means. 2) To disperse peaceful protests or demonstrations, even if they are disruptive, unless the protest turns violent and poses a serious threat to public safety. 3) To prevent the escape of a suspect, unless the suspect poses a serious threat of violence or harm that cannot be contained. The police must exhaust all other reasonable options before resorting to firing, and that any use of lethal force must be proportionate to the threat faced. ??Indiscriminate or unjustified police firing that results in loss of life is generally not considered lawful. ???The case laws in relation to this particular topic indicates that police firing may be justified if a suspect poses an immediate threat of violence that cannot be contained by other means. ???However, the police cannot simply claim a threat to justify firing, and must demonstrate that all other options were exhausted. ???The Police firing to disperse peaceful protests is generally not justified, unless the protest turns violent and poses a serious threat to public safety. ???The courts have emphasized that police must exercise restraint and use the minimum force necessary in such situations. ???Indiscriminate or unjustified police firing that results in loss of life is generally considered unlawful. ??As way forward, police use of deadly force is legally justified when the officer reasonably perceives a serious threat of harm, but is not justified for general enforcement tactics that do not directly address specific crime problems. #PoliceFiring #PoliceForce #Violence #Article21 #RightToLife #LawfulAct #UnlawfulAct #Justifed #AllahabadHighCourt

4 个月I wonder if the 'chavistas' ever won. How they have changed the results and they are blaming the opposition is an absolute insult. They are playing with people's minds, infusing confusion. People have been under panic for decades. During the protests, plenty of people have been massacred. they are kidnapping and arresting leaders, it is not a democracy! Wake up World!
