Best Friend Client (BFC) appreciation post of the week! This time celebrating The Lemon Perfect Company and its fearless, energetic, relentlessly motivating captain Yanni Hufnagel. **Reminder BFCs are our Best Friend Clients —?something Jiffy Iuen and I internally coined over the years at Frank Collective. These are clients you love and instantly feel bonded with, working to achieve a shared vision. You feel like you can lock arms and scale any mountain together as a team. Yanni first met with us at Frank back in the early days of the LA office — when we were in a very small co-working space in the Arts District. I didn't meet him at first, as I was based out of the NY office mostly — but I soon heard from Jiffy and Mitchell Orkis that there was a potential new brand identity job for a cold-pressed lemon water that was pre-formulation, in its seed round of funding, and the founder was "hyped!" to say the least ?? . I then learned that prior to cold-pressing lemon water, Yanni was a Division 1 NCAA basketball coach, which, after meeting him, made everything click together. He is the definition of hard work and hustle. We didn't know it yet, but both Yanni and Frank LA were about to embark on new chapters of growth together. Yanni was breaking ground on Lemon Perfect, dashing from co-packer meeting to investor call to creative reviews on planes, trains, and automobiles — often with a small zip cooler containing early formulations of his product. When he came to the NY office for a packaging review with us, we joked that he should have it handcuffed to his wrist on the plane. At the same time, we were at a pivotal point in Frank LA's growth. Scaling up, we had just made the decision to bring Andrew Almeter on as our FT CD in LA (saving me lots flights and Zoom calls - also doing it better than I could have). Andrew led a combo team of LA and NY designers through the brand identity work. Our first round of design was actually a whiff — we pushed too hard on the lemon aspect instead of the water, resulting in a retina-burning yellow-on-yellow first-round presentation ??♂? . Coach Yanni, though, was able to give it to us straight but also rally and refocus us on what became the basis of what you see today. That's the team aspect of the BFC relationship. We both knew what each of us was capable of, and rather than stand on a standard client/agency relationship, we just got to work. Once off the ground, we watched and celebrated all the phases of LP's growth. We saw it in the cooler case at Erewhon, then an end cap, selling online, larger stores, Amazon, in our friends' fridges, bigger and bigger booths at Expo West, and even with Beyoncé! Along the way, we were doing photoshoots, social assets, websites, e-comm, secondary logo marks, art direction, and packaging updates. It's been a fun ride! When I was just 18 years old, I got to work. At that age, everything you build is from the ground up. The first thing I ever made? A box. Call it packaging design, but I had no idea what I was doing. I just knew I had to make this box work. When Toby Horowitz from Mitzvah Kinder walked into my office, she requested a packaging design for a product called Mitzvah Kinder Mentchees. They are these little plastic action figures designed to look like a frum Jewish family. A mommy, a tatty, some kinderlach. These five plastic figures needed a home. I had just finished a flyer for her husband’s friend's dental supplies company, but had no experience in packaging design. The challenge was completely out of my comfort zone. But I went for it. I dove in headfirst. I start sticking pieces of paper together. Just folding and sticking and taping until I got the right shape. Then I measured it with a ruler. I recreated it on the computer. And would you know? That was the first Mitzvah Kinder box and we still use that box today. It wasn't until I met Toby Horowitz that I truly understood what it meant to build something from the ground up. Working with Toby was a turning point for me. She faced every challenge head-on, never gave up, and turned her vision into an empire. She taught me the importance of showing up every day and doing the work, no matter the obstacles. Sometimes, the simplest things make the biggest difference. With three young kids, there’s a lot of sorting and organizing to do, and that includes laundry. This shirt, with “five” printed right on the front, has become one of my favorites—not just because it’s a cute design, but because it saves me time. I don’t have to check the label and figure out which kid it belongs to; the age is right there in big letters, making it easy for me to sort and put away quickly. What I love most is that this design wasn’t intended for parents—it’s for the kids to celebrate their age… but in the process, it makes my life a little easier. This got me thinking: What small things could we be doing in our businesses to make our customers’ lives easier and/or better? Even if it’s not the primary goal, sometimes the solutions we create for one purpose have a ripple effect that benefits others. Taking a moment to think about how we can make things more convenient or streamlined could be the value-add we didn’t even realize we were providing. How can you simplify the lives of the people you serve?

Week 5 of the second Semester… This week I looked at branding, logos and videos. Firstly, by idea for a business is to help and support womens transition from prison to society without stereotypes. This idea has came from my deep disgust in how women are left with no support just because they have been through the criminal system. Designing my logo took so much research which includes the meaning of the colours, what each flower represents and what feeling and message my logo gives off at first glance. I have chose brown, which symbolises safety, resilience and security, which are all key aspects of my organisation. During the design process, i googled uncopywrited logos, and took. My favourite thing off over 10 different logos, pulled each element together and came up with my first ever business logo and name, Liberty Link. #teesideuniversity #empoweringwomen #libertylink

Here's 1 big mistake I made when I was first getting started with my grandma's floral shop: Like most beginners, I made a lot of mistakes when I first started building my grandma's floral business, Perennial Gardens. But this was the biggest one, by far: ???????????????? ???? ???????????? ??????????????. Here's what happened: I fell into the trap of focusing on the wrong thing. I was obsessing over the ? logo ? colors ? a website ? and “aesthetic” of our brand This led to wasted time and little progress. I was getting frustrated with why nothing was getting done. ______ But, it's also worth acknowledging that making this mistake taught me a ton. I learned the importance of lever-moving tasks: ? talking to customers every day ? doubling down on what’s working with our content ? asking genuine questions to our target audience This is why I encourage everyone to see their mistakes (and "failures") as necessary steps along the path. There is always a lesson to be learned.?

Ever count how many logos you see in a day? It's way more than you'd think... it's about 6,500! That's a lot to remember! But can you guess the world's first logo? It was the red triangle for Bass Brewery, made in 1876! Before logos, businesses had to use long descriptions. Now, a strong logo is important... it helps people remember your brand. I started a Book Club two weeks ago ?? Two weeks ago, I embarked on a journey to foster a community of design enthusiasts through a humble initiative: a Design Book Club (Read With Gabriella) Today, I'm overwhelmed with gratitude to share that our little club has blossomed into something truly awesome In just a short time, we've welcomed over 35 members from across 5 different countries, uniting under our shared passion for design. Despite our hectic schedules, we've managed to dive into "The Design of Everyday Things" by Don Norman as our main read for the month and I'm thrilled to say that we've collectively devoured an average of 50 pages this week Through vibrant discussions and shared insights, we've learned invaluable lessons from one another, transforming our group into a nurturing community filled with love and support. I still wonder how this people are everywhere, supporting and cheering each other. Why did we learn ? ??That objects should clearly communicate their function and use. ??That systems should provide users with clear feedback on their actions. ??That the relationship between controls and their effects should be intuitive.
