From the bottom of our hearts, we want to thank everyone who made this year's Igniting Hope another spectacular event! Our staff, our partners at UB and the Erie County Office of Health Equity, and our number of volunteers made this event a smooth and informative event. The feedback has been incredibly positive! Pencil us in for next September as Igniting Hope will definitely be back for an 8th year!

We're proud to be working with Ladder to implement the Surviving Adolescence Parenting Program. Now that the first round of parents have graduated, the results speak for themselves! ? 100% of parents believe that their relationship with their child improved. ? 100% of parents feel more confident in opportunities to connect with their child. ? 100% of parents felt the Surviving Adolescence program provided them with the relevant tools to build their relationship with their family. When parents were asked to describe the program using one word, words including 'helpful', 'informative', 'caring', 'involved', 'empowering', 'safe space' and 'calm' were mentioned.
Since graduating from our first Surviving Adolescence pilot program, 100% of parents believe that their relationship with their young person has improved and that they feel more confident in opportunities to connect with them. Every October, World Blindness Awareness Month shines a spotlight on the blind and visually impaired community, raising awareness about the challenges of living without sight. The World Health Organization (WHO) notes that “everyone, if they live long enough, will experience at least one eye disease or disorder in their lifetime.” The Sight Center is commemorating the occasion with a month-long campaign that will bring attention to blindness, celebrate independence, dispel misconceptions, and promote services for people who live with little or no sight. https://lnkd.in/gzKVbEY4

Why should we celebrate the month of JUNE?! Numerous “International days” activities in the field of healthcare were set to serve a noble objectives by which relevant healthcare communities commemorate & raise “BIOLOGICAL” diseases awareness among patients, caregivers, and society at large… In our efforts to raise disease awareness, it's essential to realise that other SOCIAL and MORAL diseases have more significant & profound impact on individuals and communities which require immediate & comprehensive intervention. Addressing these societal ailments alongside biological diseases, we can create a more inclusive and compassionate world, promoting holistic well-being for all. For this month; we all need to prioritize our families and loved ones, we must engage in proactive actions, including education, support networks, and advocacy efforts, recognizing them as our most valuable assets. Parents’ role is crucial to fend against such reprehensible obscenity, a crime that violates human nature, destroys moral values, and violates the right of humanity to preserve its human race…

Happy Tuesday and Happy National Public Health Week. Day 2: Today’s daily theme is healthy neighborhoods. Our neighborhoods are the backbone of our communities, influencing our physical, mental and emotional well-being. I have been in this space for the last 18 years and I am amazed at the strides we are making. There’s lot more to do! In public health, our work is multifaceted, encompassing disease prevention, health promotion, policy development, and community engagement to improve the overall well-being of populations. Through research, education, and collaboration, we strive to address health disparities and promote equitable access to healthcare services. UNTIL WE ALL HAVE ACCESS!

While crucial for low-income families, WIC's procurement practices may inadvertently drive up formula prices for others. Reform is needed to ensure market resilience and equitable access to infant nutrition. The Federal Trade Commission’s report on the infant formula market highlights how programs like WIC contribute to market concentration, posing risks of supply disruptions. Despite WIC's cost-effectiveness and positive impact on low-income families, there are unintended consequences. Social Prescribing Celebration Day on March 14, 2024, is quickly approaching, a day to raise awareness about the transformative power of including creative activities like art in holistic health and wellness treatment plans for Kids & Art pediatric cancer patients. We challenge you to help us raise awareness on March 14 about how social prescribing can positively impact individuals and communities by connecting them to non-clinical support such as art and community activities. Join us in celebrating by dedicating at least 15 minutes on March 14 to engage in a wellness activity: make some art, walk your dog, enjoy a local park, meditate, strike some yoga poses, call or visit a neighbor or friend, and focus on your well-being. And why not invite your family and friends to participate too? Together we can make a difference!? How to get involved?? You can get involved by hosting events, showcasing your work on social media or highlighting what you’re doing in the media. Don't forget to use the hashtag?#SocialPrescribingDay?when sharing! #artheals https://lnkd.in/dfyX4-SS

I encourage anyone interested in the future of pets and people to join Ellen Jefferson, DVM, Vincent Medley, and myself for this meaningful conversation. We will discuss the importance of expanding how we measure (and promote) success and impact beyond (but including) the save rate to include our broader impact on communities and people. Much like my last sentence, the issues we seek to address are complex (yet nuanced), and success will never be accurately measured by a single metric. So how should we measure success? I'm not completely sure yet, but I'd love you to join us as we talk about it!
Join us live TODAY at 5 p.m. CT for our next webinar, "Beyond the Save Rate: Integrating People into the Sheltering Equation." This discussion will focus on how the industry can address root causes and expand how we approach measuring success—featuring Dr. Ellen Jefferson, President and CEO of Austin Pets Alive!, and Cole Wakefield, Executive Director of The Good Shepherd Humane Society. After the live event, a recording will be distributed to all registrants within 3 business days. Register here: https://bit.ly/49wfHq5
