The Wall Street Journal (usually a reasoned voice among all the Hamas propaganda) published an article today with the galling title "Netanyahu, Sinwar are Hurdles to Deal." As if they each had a hand in the failure to reach a ceasefire deal. As if one party was not the democratically elected Prime Minister of an actual country, an American ally, who did not start this war, and the other was not the unhinged leader of a gang of terrorist thugs. There is one reason and one reason only for the lack of a ceasefire deal- Hamas does not want one. If they did they would never persist with their absurd conditions. Example- Hamas has not agreed to release even one live hostage in the first stage of the ceasefire; Israel might make huge concessions and get back 33 dead bodies. They will not know this until it happens because Hamas has refused to provide any information about the hostages including their names, who is alive and who is not. After Israel gets back 33 dead bodies, they must negotiate for an indefinite period of time for a permanent ceasefire after which they will supposedly get back any remaining hostages. How much longer will we be made to endure these endless farcical "negotiations," in which Hamas will not even participate, where exactly nothing gets accomplished, and Netanyahu gets the blame? All parties involved are treating Hamas like a legitimate negotiating partner whose demands deserve actual consideration, and there is something deeply wrong with that. To quote Ilana Kattan- I can't.
