Really brilliant to spend a couple of days this week with #leadership colleagues across Barnardo's at our annual leadership conference – a rare, but hugely valuable, opportunity to see everybody and re-connect in-person.
We should never underestimate the power of humans being together with each other – while virtual engagements are here to stay and an important enabler of ‘getting stuff done’, it should never replace quality time spent in-person.
The conference has given me loads of food for thought and things to really and deeply reflect on – both in terms of learning from and building on 'what works' and has impact for #children and #youngpeople, and how I can lead a team so core to our charity’s purpose and strategic ambition – all in the spirit of collegiality, #learning and #continualimprovement.
I’m really proud, too, that our work and continuing efforts to centre and foreground the visibility, #voices and #livedexperiences of children and young people from all walks of life was consistently drawn out as something that both continues to strengthen across all areas of the charity and is really starting to set Barnardo’s apart in our children’s services delivery.
Almost as a ‘case in point’, it was particularly brilliant that – with support from Rachel Frodsham and Bronte Edwards (can't tag!) – young people themselves were able to co-design and co-facilitate two workshops to bring to life some of the excellent work going on across our charity, and reflect on ‘what worked’, ‘what didn’t’, and ‘what can we commit to doing differently in future’ – particularly in the context of our national #corporatepartnership with Co-op and in relation to #healthinequalities.
I’ve left the conference feeling as proud as ever to work for a charity with the heritage, purpose, values and people of Barnardo’s ?? – although, completely exhausted and, I think, in need of a significant period of laying down in a quiet, darkened room!
