?? Super Trowel: A Sustainable Competition ?? From clay to car park, Super Trowel has made sustainability a core part of its mission. THE FULL CIRCLE It begins with every brick laid during the Super Trowel Final, which doesn’t go to waste. With the help of our sustainability sponsor, Tigerbite Mini Crushers, the bricks are crushed and repurposed. This year, the crushed materials were donated to a non-profit fishery in Essex, where they were used to create an accessible car park for fishermen. We couldn’t have done it alone! A huge thank you to Altrad Belle for bringing their equipment and hands-on support to help with the construction of the car park. Their contribution was greatly appreciated. The journey comes full circle: from visiting the factory where the wienerberger UK bricks are made, to ensuring they’re reused in ways that give back to the community. Super Trowel also supports sustainability at the grassroots level. Each regional college participating in the competition is equipped with brand new training mortar and bricks, which are then used by learners throughout the next academic year. How can recycling cell phones help forests recover from wildfires? Every year we see the destruction and devastation caused by the increasing number of wildfires. Due to increasingly frequent and severe periods of heat and drought, as well as plenty of fuel on the forest floors, many of these fires are burning out of control and turning into megafires. Every e-Cycle client has the ability to choose whether or not they would like to use the funds generated from recycling their used, mobile devices to make a tax-deductible donation to the Arbor Day Foundation. Loved what Mike Roeth said here: "All too often when there is a multi-phase plan we jump ahead with ideas for the latter part of the plan. But here’s the thing: the beginning phases usually set the stage for the success of the latter stages." So right. There are so many trucks and routes that can be electrified right now with existing battery technology, fleet depots, route networks and spare electric grid capacity, especially at night. We don't need to solve all the EV challenges today, but there are many that can, in fact, be solved today, at low cost and high reliability, with the right plan and people to execute it. Let's start by picking the low-hanging fruit. That will give auto and EVSE OEMs the capital they need to continue to invest in R&D to address range and weight challenges. My local community group Friends of the Dart currently has a crowdfunder running, with the money raised from this going towards the cost of being able to rigorously + scientifically test sewage and pollution levels all year round along the length of the Dart.? ? This level of citizen science-based testing is ground-breaking and is on the cusp of becoming a true benchmark for how we pressure every polluting water company into line. ??
