The next President will face incredibly stark foreign policy choices. After 20 years of war and nation-building--costing $6 trillion and the lives of thousands of service members--our national debt ballooned to nearly $36 trillion. Programs like Social Security and Medicare are on track to be insolvent at home. Simply put, “the United States now experiences a strategic scarcity that our national security class has not had to deal with for generations.” CVA’s Tyler Koteskey concludes that “the next president should insist on maintaining a world-class military tailored to meet our principal threats.” By scaling back deployments, prioritizing diplomacy & economics over military interventions, focusing on genuine threats, and leaning on European allies to shoulder more of their defense burden. Global Economic Decline: Escalating conflicts, particularly in areas like Ukraine and the Middle East, can have significant economic ripple effects worldwide. As countries increase defense spending and sanctions disrupt trade, global supply chains could break down, leading to inflation, recessions, and mass unemployment. This would hurt the most vulnerable populations, particularly in developing countries. 3. Environmental Consequences: Military actions, especially airstrikes and bombings, have long-lasting environmental impacts. The destruction of ecosystems, pollution, and the consumption of resources for warfare could accelerate environmental degradation. Countries already struggling with climate change could see further devastation, increasing the likelihood of resource scarcity and conflicts over those resources. 4. Worsening Humanitarian Crises: Escalating wars often result in displacement, widespread human suffering, and humanitarian crises. As military interventions increase, especially in places like Ukraine and the Middle East, the number of refugees could surge, putting strain on neighboring countries and international organizations. Here are some of the most significant risks Earth faces due to this kind of rhetoric and military escalation: 1. Nuclear Escalation: The threat of nuclear conflict, particularly with countries like Russia, is one of the most pressing dangers.
