Last week, Barnes & Thornburg LLP partnered with EACC New York [European American Chamber of Commerce] to host "Living Forever: How AI is Reshaping Life After Death." The event had a great turnout of people in various industries. BT New York's Chloé Salome Margulis was the legal expert on the panel. Panelists spoke about the implications of AI in the afterlife, discussing ethical, legal, and regulatory frameworks of AI governance in both the US and internationally when it comes to our data and likeness after death, and particularly what should be considered when drafting legal documentation.

Check out The Cybersecurity Law Report's Matt Fleischer-Black's article for everything you need to know about Colorado's first-in-nation AI regulation.
Colorado has given the U.S. its first heavy-duty law regulating AI – narrower than the E.U.’s law but requiring almost as much effort to satisfy. For an understanding of new costs and risks for companies, complexities around key terms and practical compliance steps, read Matt Fleischer-Black's article with great commentary from Odia Kagan of Fox Rothschild, Bradford Newman of Baker McKenzie, Owen Davis of Husch Blackwell and Jevan Hutson and K.C. If you missed my appearance yesterday on the ABA Career Center webcast to discuss AI and the billable hour, Law360 provides a great summary: https://lnkd.in/gN38pPQV Excerpts for two major takeaways I want law firms to understand: 1. "When you start pricing by the outcome, price by the experience, and price by the relationship, a whole new world opens up, and you start running a different kind of business. That's where I think we're heading as a profession." 2. "What I say to law firms is: You've got to move past this idea that you can get your clients to pay you for the development of your lawyers. You have to start looking at them not as a revenue source, but as an investment destination. You've got to turn them into very skilled, experienced, confident lawyers who can build relationships with clients, who can bring in business, who can generate their own practice areas."

A big thank you to Global Arbitration Review (GAR) and to my fellow panellists for yesterday's engaging debate on the motion: “AI should be integrated into arbitration processes with soft law rules and guidance.” We reached a general consensus that, whilst the use of AI in arbitration is still evolving, it's not too early to establish a set of minimum standards that parties can voluntarily adopt to guide AI integration. #Arbitration #GARlive #Innovation #DisputeResolution #GlobalArbitrationReview #StephensonHarwood #DubaiArbitrationWeek
