This gives you a chance to hook interested players way before the game even comes out and continue that momentum afterwards. For #indiegames, however, that can be incredibly difficult, but you can start with two things: ?? Create a Press Kit that includes compelling copy, your trailer, and your story as a studio or solo dev. Weekly Series: Week 5 <> Founder troubles. Startup struggles Spent 7+ years in Ad Tech. Met like-minded professionals. Dreamt of a product. Shipped it in a year. ?? But welcome to reality; there's a struggle in every task, each day. (Cue dramatic music) In phase 0, our biggest worry was how to generate business. Now, it has transitioned to 'how do we resolve this for a client' (a good-to-have problem). Here's what we got into this week ??: Reinventing ad delivery methods. Traditional ad delivery requires JavaScript insertion in the body tag, along with the head tag. In our strive to achieve the best page load times for publishers, this method was counter-productive. Instead, we chose to add the necessary JavaScript only in the head tag through iframes and create Div in the body tags. (still not as straightforward as i make it sound here) Breaking the conventional sequence created multiple blockers and delays; the biggest trade-off for a startup that cannot afford to lose time. After much research and hundreds of re-dos, we managed successful ad deliveries. In the process, we introduced UndrAds' proprietary ad format, ViewMax, resulting in a win after the hurdles. The trade-off was worth it ??. P.S. Had to skip last Friday's weekly post, but for a good reason. We were busy hitting a milestone with our small team. But it's too soon to talk about it. As a former studio owner, I put my heart and soul into everything I did in my studios and still do. And guess what? Yes, I got so emotional making decisions when it cam to my business. Making decisions about the serious stuff, like growing your studio and increasing your numbers on a regular basis needs to be made in a neutral place. As human beings, we fall into a silly trap of making decisions when we are really excited or really flat. This is why Casinos WIN! Right? Since gamescom is happening this week I see more and more posts regarding people going there or not. This year I'm joining the second camp, and already miss the atmosphere and all the networking that is going to happen in Cologne just in a few days. Still, make no mistake, going to an event of such a scale to represent a product is not just rainbows and butterflies. So let's use this opportunity to talk about what exactly marketing people have to deal with on a daily basis besides the events themselves: ?? as a marketing representative you usually don't have an opportunity to get involved in the development process itself. Sure, it's rare when games are doing well financially without proper marketing support, but still it's very unlikely you are getting involved in decision making when it comes to features, mechanics, etc. ?? as a CM you have to deal with all kinds of feedback, filter it and bring it back to the dev team to address. While doing so you are expected to remain calm even if you are getting directly or indirectly insulted. This requires patience, understanding psychology and why people do what they do. ???? as the representative of the studio you have to deal with the consequences of decisions you have no control over (i. e. bugs and delays). This means you need to know your audience and manage its expectations, understand its mood, and pick the approach that will resonate with it in the best way possible. And not ruin the relationships with your employer while you are at it (Helldivers 2) ?? as a PR person you are expected to have established connections with journalists and influencers. Which means you can put a lot of effort in securing partnerships with high profile media and still fail. This can be especially crucial and frustrating for new/unknown IPs from indie studios ?? you have to be very careful with what you say and how you act as it can directly affect the reputation of the studio you represent. One wrong word or reaction can ruin everything you and your colleagues have been working so hard for many years ? you get to interact with the live audience and are more likely to go to events than someone from the production team. Interacting with people who are interested in what you do can be very rewarding and inspirational. Of course, these points can differ based on the situation. Being in a marketing team of a publisher or promoting a well known IP from an established studio may be less challenging than doing PR for or as a part of an indie team. In any case it's hard work just like any other with its own perks and downsides. So it's up to you to decide what's more important if you are trying to pick what will suit you better - marketing or production. P.S. all said and done, I wish GSC Game World marketing, biz dev, and technical support team to successfully bring and represent STALKER 2 at Gamescom this year. You are doing a very important job, while we (production team) are doing ours.

Hands down, Deadpool is my favorite film campaign I've ever worked on. And pretty much everyone else who worked on it feels the same way. Here's why: It was a perfect storm of culture, marketing, and Ryan Reynolds' comedic genius. Yes, this campaign is old, but it remains the gold standard. I dare you to find another as daring, ambitious, and insanely effective. Deadpool was no ordinary superhero movie, with a titular character renowned for his unconventional and self-aware personality. We knew a cookie-cutter campaign wouldn't do it justice. Remarkably, the studio gave us the freedom to play, try new things, and push boundaries. Reynolds poured his heart and soul into the project. He also REALLY understood the character — his vibe, his humor, his voice. He WAS Deadpool. No method acting required. You can't put a price on that kind of synchronicity and authenticity. Recognizing that cultural relevance was key to creating a campaign that captured the moment, we dove into the latest happenings in politics, culture, music, sports, and social trends across our top 15 markets. We used these cultural insights to create content that seamlessly integrated Deadpool into each market, having him comment on everything from unpopular political figures in France to the breakup of a chart-topping Taiwanese band. By breaking the fourth wall - an unprecedented move in superhero films - and engaging with fans in their own language about the stuff they cared about, we created a genuine connection that resonated on a cultural level and captivated audiences like never before. This campaign was so meta, it made the fourth wall beg for a restraining order. Despite the usual strict franchise guidelines, the studio was bold enough to embrace our unconventional ideas. Everyone had the opportunity to contribute, giving us a sense of belonging and purpose. We were all rooting for its success, knowing we were part of something special and groundbreaking. The result? We shattered box office records and had fun. The Deadpool campaign was a master class in seizing the moment with authentic, organic marketing that didn't feel cliché or forced. In today's content-saturated world, brands that tap into their audiences' pulse, create content that feels like a conversation, and navigate cultural nuances with authenticity and humor will build trust AND the strongest connections. Deadpool rewrote the rules, proving that genuine audience connection, daring creativity, and playful freedom can create a cultural phenomenon that transcends marketing. I'm curious to see what Disney does the second time around with Deadpool & Wolverine in July.
