?? We continue our series on Legal Contronyms with "RENT". Rent: to purchase the use of something; to sell the use of something. This legal contronym is different from others because the meaning is only opposite because it is viewer relative. That means that the only difference between the meanings of the word is whether you are the renter, the person selling the use of something, or the rentee, the person purchasing the use of something, does the meaning change. If you do not own the apartment in which you live, the landlord is renting that space to you, or selling the use of the apartment to you, while at the same time, you are renting that space, or purchasing the use of the apartment.
