????April is #SecondChanceMonth! While "second chances" can come through many forms for justice-involved individuals, one critical component to rebuilding a brighter future following incarceration is earning an #education ahead of release—whether it's a GED, vocational certificate in a trade, college degree, or a mixture of each. In 2023, 44 college degrees were conferred to residents in CoreCivic's care, with 287 residents enrolled in college programming of some kind. MORE: https://hubs.li/Q02rQSxY0

I had a few disclosures from YP this week and it had me reflecting on my involvement in Team Around the Child (TAC) meetings, conversations, and similar situations when engaging with education spaces, external agencies, and families. On the surface, most of the YP that disclosed information did not have any prior involvement with external agencies other than professionals, and family already in their life (social workers in this case especially). But for me this is interesting... Those that know me well know that I am not big on acronyms, buzzwords, jargon and all the rest of it because I believe many people hide behind terminology a lot of the time. If someone needs help they need help, sounding 'smart' means nothing when actioning things if someone is still going through it. For me, it is all quite simple... Before a young person gets to the point of needing support from external agencies... Is there not already a 'team around the child'? All young people in education have access to teachers, pastoral staff, and various other professionals whereby most are 'highly trained', but still somehow we still struggle to support many of our most vulnerable when they need a 'team' around them before the point that things get escalated. Whilst it is understandable that additional support is needed for some, I struggle to understand why there are not more questions about why 30% of young people in schools currently say they do not feel comfortable talking to 1 adult in their school, and that 15% say they do not feel comfortable talking to their own teachers... This photo epitomises 1000 stories where we really were the team around these young men when I taught them a couple of years ago, and believe me, in this class you had some young people with stories that you could make movies of, and I am sure we know of many YP that have had similar circumstances. The important thing here was though, we were all a team regardless of the challenges, and they all overcome various forms of adversity because of this and more importantly, their raised level of self belief. TAC... When should this acronym become relevant... When we see YP are struggling, or the immediate point they enter an education space, and therefore automatically have a team around them... What other examples of this are there that people hide behind when YP are really going through it I wonder... Food for thought... P.S... I am not 5, probably got the maturity levels of a 5 year old though

Creating strong roots with a strong foundation matters at every crossroads of kids educational programs. ? ? Normally, it's easy to carry out tasks and proceed with the process, but when it comes to learning testimonials, there are long patterns and updates involved with it, for underprivileged kids. ? ? I believe education foundations should strongly recommend high-firm ethics and beliefs towards this journey. #day2 #happylearning #100dayschallenge #journey #testimonials #foundation #educationalplanners #taskplanning

Ensuring that children can ‘see’ themselves in educational resources is key for creating an inclusive and anti-discriminatory learning environment. Young children possess a strong awareness of their own unique identity. They are acutely sensitive to their surroundings where they rapidly acquire understanding of the people, places, and routines in their lives.
