Here comes a micron-scale iRobot for aquatic environment. ?? “This study introduces magnetically controlled microrobots [with] polymeric [hair on a] magnetic core.” Under magnetic fields, microrobots form by self-assembling of microparticles (the core and the brush-like polymeric hair) into rotating discs of varied sizes. They are capable of moving around at controllable speeds to “capture free-swimming bacteria and dispersed microplastics” in contaminated water samples. Subsequently, the particles can release the sequestered bacteria and microplastics by using ultrasound and are reusable. The cleaned water (post microrobots removal) are irradiated by UV. #watertreatment
