So far, the allocation of urban land in Ethiopia is either through tenders or allotments (for selected entities). A new law which is reportedly in the pipeline is to introduce the acquisition of urban land through negotiation. While this would be a good move including for investors to engage more flexibly in securing land, it raises, at the same time, potential regulatory concerns, as a negotiation-based framework may require robust oversight to deal with inconsistencies and corruption —issues already deeply rooted on the ground. #urbanlandreform #ethiopiainvestment #landallocation #landacquisition #negotiation #ethiopia
