Unity just published the last of the ebooks that I contributed to. I'll miss contributing to these, but I hope they help people, now and in the future. Thomas and his team set out to create the gold standard in Unity content, and that's exactly what they achieved, time after time. This one is about DOTS. The DOTS Best Practices Guide I wrote is about understanding data-oriented design and how to apply it to maximise runtime performance of your DOTS code. This ebook complements that guide by serving as a more approachable introduction and overview to the DOTS ecosystem.
With Unity 6 in preview and DOTS 1.0 production-ready, this is a great time to explore the opportunities DOTS brings. Today we are launching yet another free ebook: The Data-Oriented Technology Stack for advanced Unity users to help you get started. The guide gives you a thorough introduction to the Entity Component System and each of the DOTS packages and features, links to the latest resources, including the comprehensive GitHub repository of ECS samples, and explores important concepts related to the ECS architecture that underpins the stack. A big personal thanks to Shanti Zachariah and Miruna Dumitrascu from my team as well as our friends from the DOTS R&D team and namely Brian Will for his expert contributions to the ebook. #Unity #dots #gamedev Check out our release blog post from earlier today here: https://lnkd.in/de5z8zRG Get the DOTS ebook at: https://lnkd.in/d2fRJnQd And make sure to check out more of our best practice resources for Unity devs at: https://unity.com/how-to

Ever wished for seamless control of OBS directly within your Unreal Engine application? (it wasn't a shower thought) I built a custom UE plugin that empowers developers to do just that! It grants control over core OBS features directly from your project. This plugin originated from a specific gig I worked on a long time ago. While it may be very specific for that one application, the development process was a MASSIVE learning experience! I leveraged the obs-websocket remote control plugin available on GitHub. Written in C++, it functions as a runtime plugin. However, I also have a Python version built specifically for editor use! Here's what it offers: - Effortless Integration: Control core OBS features directly within your UE project. - Enhanced User Experience: Exposes a wide range of OBS functionalities as - Blueprint functions for smooth visual scripting. - Seamless Communication: Utilizes WebSockets to ensure smooth and reliable communication between your UE application and OBS. While I initially didn't envision this as a general-purpose tool (it is quite niche), it might spark some ideas for you! Feel free to adapt it for your specific needs – the possibilities are endless. #UnrealEngine #gamedev #livestreaming #obs #plugin #developertools #toolprogramming https://lnkd.in/epSN-36T

o1 can be used with Canvas now.
The new o1 canvas is quite impressive at coding from intent: "create an interactive tool that visually shows me how correlation works, and why correlation alone is not a great descriptor of the underlying data in many cases. make it accessible to nonmath people and highly interactive and engaging" Coding by just asking for you want really feels magical. The advantage over sonnet is that o1 seems to maintain context better, the code can be much longer, and there are fewer constraints on what it can run.

Some time ago, I heard something unusual from a Senior Developer. He didn't believe that using AI was a good idea within dev companies, which I disagree with. AI is a tool, and engineers shouldn't let their egos stop them from using it widely.
