Python, with its data analysis prowess, excels at this task. Libraries like Pandas and NumPy help uncover genetic mutations linked to increased cancer risk. This enables early interventions and preventative measures for individuals with higher susceptibility. 2. September is Childhood Cancer Awareness month to raise awareness of childhood cancers and how childhood cancer affects families. For this year, A Month of Movement aims to encourage you to move more for the month of September and raise vital funds for research into children’s cancers as you go. Move an extra 30 minutes for 30 days with your children this month. I know school has started but that is all the more reason to move more with your children. You can do 30 minutes at once, break it up into two 15-minute activities or three 10-minute activities. This will be good for you AND good for your children! I am honoured to have been invited to be the keynote speaker at the April 14th “Sowing the Seeds of Hope Fundraising Gala” for The Olive Branch of Hope (TOBOH). For over 20 years, TOBOH has worked to support cancer survivors.?The Toronto-based organization was launched in part to help reduce/eliminate the health disparities within Black communities because women of African Ancestry are at a higher risk of breast cancer.?In 2019, breast cancer replaced lung cancer as the leading cause of death by cancer, among Black women, according to an article published by the American Cancer Society.?Studies have shown?that women of African descent have a higher rate of breast cancer among women younger than 45. Overall, Black women do not have the highest rate of diagnoses of breast cancer globally, but they do have one of the highest mortality rates. In the United States alone, it is reported that African American women have a 31% breast cancer mortality rate, which is the highest of all other races and ethnicities.? Research has revealed that?there are disparities that exist between the diagnosis, treatment, and levels of mortality of breast cancer in Black women. These disparities include genetics, lack of accessible treatment options, and lack of financial preparedness for long-term health issues in Black women when compared to women of other races.?With many excellent programs and supports, TOBOH is a ray of hope for many women surviving or diagnosed with breast cancer. https://lnkd.in/gqenjWN7

In 2023, we launched an incredible partnership with leading children's and young people’s #cancer charities?Young Lives vs Cancer,?Children's Cancer and Leukaemia Group (CCLG), the?Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust?and?Teenage Cancer Trust, to apply an Integrated Approach to #research and #systems change with #children and young people with cancer experience. This has been an exciting project for multiple reasons: ? We assisted the Partnership to think systemically about their best role in ? supporting children and young people with cancer. ? The research was co-designed with and for the communities, young people and families with cancer experience?and system professionals. ? Together, we produced the largest survey ever conducted on psychosocial needs of cancer care for children and young people and their families, and now have clear learning for the response #strategy.
