Kirsteen Campbell, master whisky maker, The Macallan, said: “It was an absolute privilege to be able to reach back in time and select stock from the 1940's to honour and celebrate our 200-year anniversary.?" Yes, Macallan has decided to surprise us again and has presented a bottle of whisky aged for 84 years. The launch price of this edition is USD 190,000, but the market is already "pumping" its value to prices that are expected to be dizzying. The reason? There are only 200 bottles in the world. This is one of the secrets that makes investing in fine whisky highly profitable: its exceptional rarity. And Macallan knows it well. #InvestmentOpportunity #LuxuryInvestments #SpiritsMarket #PremiumSpirits #TheMacallan84YearsOld

It should come as no surprise that craft distillers are facing significant challenges in a rapidly evolving industry, with distribution consolidation and stagnant regulations creating roadblocks. In this article, my colleague and dear friend Mark Harmann (National Sales Director of the IDN), emphasizes that smaller markets often offer better opportunities for craft brands than larger, saturated markets. He highlights the critical importance of the distribution channel and finding the right distribution partner, as mid-sized distributors can provide a valuable path for regional expansion. Craft brands must innovate and strategically navigate these obstacles to survive and thrive in this competitive landscape. #CraftSpirits #Distribution #Innovation #IDNDist https://lnkd.in/eW7TUarn

There are countless myths surrounding whisky, possibly because of the industry’s centuries-old history and steadfast tradition, which is deeply rooted and woven into folklore. From debates over single malt versus blended whiskies to misunderstandings about production, barrel-ageing, and how to enjoy single malt whisky, there are grey areas where we can’t always speak in absolutes. Here, we have tried to dispel the myths and resolve the rumours around whisky. https://lnkd.in/dphpAzxW

Thirty years ago, Stella Liebeck purchased hot coffee from a McDonald's restaurant, accidentally spilled it in her lap, and suffered third-degree burns. Liebeck sought to settle with McDonald's for $20,000 to cover her medical expenses. When McDonald's refused, Liebeck's attorney filed suit in the U.S., and the jury awarded her nearly three million dollars, though they eventually settled for $600,000. In response, McDonald’s reduced the coffee temperature from 90°C to around 70°C and added a warning on the lids. While these measures reduce lawsuit risks, they also result in lukewarm coffee and unnoticed warnings. For those who prefer hot coffee without the risk of burns, more inventive solutions were needed. Is it possible to actually use the coffee's high temperature to reduce the risk of burns? This is where we apply SIT's Qualitative Change condition, which requires turning a harmful element into a neutral or beneficial one. Smart lids offer a more elegant solution: a lid that changes colour based on the liquid's temperature. When the lid is introduced to a hot beverage with a high temperature, the lid turns red, clearly indicating the risk. The Qualitative Change condition can be applied in two ways: (1) Reversal means that as the harmful element intensifies, the undesired phenomenon decreases. (2) Elimination means the undesired phenomenon no longer depends on the harmful element. Smart lids use Reversal: the hotter the coffee, the more noticeable the warning, reducing the risk of burns. This condition introduces a surprising and elegant element to the solution. Properly implemented, the harmful factor becomes either irrelevant or helpful in solving the problem. Have you considered exploring the problem space rather than the solution space? This approach leads to inventive and simple solutions by altering the correlation between the harmful element and the undesired phenomenon. #QualitativeChange #InnovativeSolutions #ProductDesign #ProblemSolving #SIT #InventiveThinking https://lnkd.in/e_iuyHGj

269. Spending On Whiskey Is Still Up Steve Malloy of Malloy’s Finest and Eric Rosentreter of Old Elk are back to discuss the financial side of whiskey and to drink some American spirits. While sipping on Virginia Distilling Co.’s collaboration with Goose Island and Old Grand Dad 16, we discuss how legacy brands are releasing more LTO’s and earlier than usual; and is building a brand on LTO’s a viable option. We also hit on the small batch blenders and their importance, retailers coming to realization that they’re not the whiskey account that thought they were, and the current glut of whiskey that producers are in. https://lnkd.in/g-t8TzNu
