As a VP at Pioneer Utility Resources, I could not have had a more supportive CEO than Michael Shepard. Work-life balance is the somewhat antiquated term we often use to describe our working lives as women - particularly as mothers. The concept of balance puts the onus solely on our shoulders where we carry the physical and mental loads of our lives with us at all times. This newer concept of work-life integration really takes some of that pressure off where we are able to be fully present in each part of our multifaceted lives exactly when we need to be. Thrive Luncheon - Closing the Gap June 6, 2024 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM (EDT) Description Women in the U.S. workforce continue to struggle for equal pay and face challenges advancing in their careers. While women make up nearly half of the workforce, research shows that women continue to earn less than men and struggle for equal representation. “A 20-year-old woman just starting full-time, year-round work stands to lose $407,760 over a 40-year career compared to her male counterpart” (National Women’s Law Center Surprisingly, some of the industries with the largest pay gaps have the greatest share of female workers. Women outnumber men in earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees and are nearly on par in getting medical and legal degrees and still men are more likely than women to get the highest paying leadership roles. The gender pay gap also varies considerably by race and ethnicity, and by other demographics. Join us as the Chamber’s Senior VP of Programs & Initiatives, Celeste Granger, presents an overview of the disparity in pay and leadership opportunities for women in the workforce.
