Self-care is any activity we deliberately do to take care of our mental, emotional, and physical health. We can’t always control what life throws at us, but we are usually in control of how we respond to stressors and the impact they have on us. Instead of surviving, a regular self-care practice can help us feel like we are thriving. By looking after ourselves, we are more able to have more energy for looking after others, less likely to need to draw on others in a crisis, and more able to be the best version of ourselves for the people around you. ??I try to schedule time most days to go outside and be active. Netball, Spikeball, and going to the gym and out for walks, helps me look after my body and my brain. ?? I'm trying to make journaling a daily habit - even if I just put a few words on the page. Journaling helps me reflect, stay grounded during a busy life, and slow down my days to be more present. ??I'm working on making more time for socialising, even when uni and work demands are at a peak. Hanging out with my partner and friends is super important for my wellbeing and theirs, and should be a non-negotiable for me! How do you look after yourself? We know that wellbeing is at the heart of protecting what matters most. Today, we are celebrating Self-Care Day to raise awareness about the small actions, habits, and lifestyle choices we make to support our wellbeing. This symbolic day - 24 July - was chosen by the World Health Organization because self-care can be practiced 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
