Last month’s hurricane caused devasting effects in several peanut-growing states, including Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina. National Peanut Board Chairman Greg Baltz said, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and communities dealing with the aftermath of this storm. While the full impact of Helene is still being determined, the good news is that peanuts and peanut farmers are resilient.” Many farmers in the path made the decision to harvest before the storm. For those who did not, peanuts are hardy and can withstand some degree of flooding. Today is not a normal day in North Carolina. Being from Colorado, experiencing a hurricane of this magnitude for the first time is absolutely eye-opening. Hurricane Helene has wreaked havoc on the western part of our state and the Southeast, destroying houses, neighborhoods, roads, highways and entire towns. This event is significantly underreported and has tragically claimed 120+ lives and counting. A client of mine has a sibling missing. A friend of mine has parents stranded at their home with no power and no way out other than private helicopter. That is a very small representation of what is occurring right now. There are individuals stranded and in danger, needing urgent assistance. Some of the most beautiful towns in the United States have been destroyed. The Hendersonville Hospital is in need of fuel to maintain power for critical operations. There are some incredible people working tirelessly, using private helicopters and jets, to rescue survivors and deliver essential supplies. To make this easy for everyone, I've put together a list of resources below supporting these rescue efforts. With a death toll exceeding 130 and devastation sweeping across five states, Hurricane Helene has left countless families without the basic essentials needed to rebuild their lives. Millions are still without power, internet, clean water, or access to food, and in some of the hardest-hit areas, aid is being delivered by any means necessary. At Goodr, we've been committed to disaster relief since 2017, when we first sent an 18-wheeler full of aid to Houston for Hurricane Harvey. Now, with Hurricane Helene striking so close to home, we need your support more than ever. We’ve secured a warehouse and set an ambitious goal: fill four trucks with essentials like water, non-perishable food, household cleaning products, and baby supplies, and get them on the road to Augusta, Brunswick, Valdosta, and Asheville in the next week. I believe in showing up for others the way we’d want them to show up for us if we were in need. This is one of those moments. With Hurricane Milton approaching the State of Florida and potentially making landfall in the next 36 hours, Hillsdale Baptist Church Ministries is preparing to minister and aid our neighbors and Tampa Bay families. ? Today, we will purchase thousands of dollars in goods for those in need after the storm.?I've attached a distribution list we are working on to prepare Hillsdale to serve as a distribution center for our neighbors. Should the storm not directly hit our area, we will ship donated and purchased items to other ministries that might suffer a greater need in their area. ? The attachment has three categories. 1)????The first, "Picnic Boxes," is for immediate distribution, and the church is purchasing cases on that list today. 2)????The second part is "Personal Care Items," which you should be able to buy at neighborhood stores like Dollar General, Family Dollar, Walmart, etc. 3)????The third list is described as "Stage 3 - Hot Boxes" and will be distributed when power and water are restored to an area. ? Stores are beginning to close today, and time is of the essence if you want to donate to our disaster relief effort.
