We are very excited to announce that Bright Beginnings, Inc. has been awarded a $25,000 grant from The Evelyn S. And K.E. Barrett Foundation to open infant and toddler child development centers at Lorraine H. Whitlock Elementary School, and Garfield Elementary School in Washington, DC! “Bright Beginnings relies on the generosity of private funders like the Barrett Foundation to maintain the public-private partnership that is a hallmark of the Head Start program” said Erin Fisher, Bright Beginnings’ Chief Executive Officer. “We are also proud to partner with DC Public Schools on the opening of these infant and toddler child development centers. The new centers will help address the shortage of high-quality early childhood education seats for children age birth to two years in DC, particularly for families living east of the Anacostia River.” Head over to: https://lnkd.in/ehAf_hes to read more!

In communities across the country, the demand for early childhood education (ECE) exceeds the number of slots available for children, including in #Missouri. Kids Win Missouri is working to address this challenge through its Child Care & Early Education Community Planning Project, which is supporting the development of locally focused community plans designed to chart a path toward a child care and early education system that better meets each community’s needs. Beneath the surface of our country lies a growing angst and anxiety, especially among communities that have been historically underserved. For our most vulnerable families, this pressure often manifests in schools—spaces that should be safe havens for learning and connection. Disengagement from families can have devastating consequences: ? Students struggle, both academically and emotionally, without a solid support system. ? Schools lose critical funding when attendance and engagement falter. ? Communities drift further apart, weakening the ties that hold us together. At The Village Method (TVM), we partner with schools to stand in the gap. We create inclusive and culturally responsive spaces that keep families engaged, connected, and empowered to play an active role in their child’s academic journey. The results are powerful: ? Schools become magnets for families seeking enrichment programming and meaningful collaboration. ? Families feel valued, and their voices are heard. ? Students gain the support they need to excel, fostering a cycle of trust and success that strengthens the entire community. This isn’t just about enrichment—it’s about survival. It’s about giving families and schools the tools to weather the storm and emerge stronger, together. I know I’m not alone in this. How have you seen family engagement make a positive impact in your school, district, church and/or community? Comment below…

"Repost with your thoughts” Where to begin? When this year is over, will I have a story to tell. At the halfway point. I must self-gloss on the hump crossed by myself, the filmmaking team and our organization. "We", Ben Scholle , Sam Chegini , Alexander Elmore , Isaiah Mancha and I not only “locked”Denverdocsoc's second civil rights documentary film, but "we" as an org unlocked a lot of minds to the power of non-narrative cinema and media literacy. The info is below, but we directly activated 1,200 DPS students over the 2023/24 school year. Colorado is set to let loose a three year "Enrichment" grant program. I am now seeking others who want to support our efforts in making Denver as well known for documentaries as we are murals (and I love murals {may even make a narrative about 'em}). I personally oversaw all of our education last year and interacted with more than 3,400 students. DPS serves a large, amazing, Hispanic population. When we shared documentary movies with the students it was powerful testament to how story is universal. It electrified and engaged all the students across all grades and cultures. My personal take? Students in K-12 are digital dependent but not digitally challenged (nor, sadly, digitally acknowledged in the positive). Documentary combined with media literacy can be a game changer in the language arts. Please consider supporting our efforts in making a difference. We always confront the facts. This year has been challenging. Our organization struggles financially. But Denverdoscsoc stayed focused on the objective of bringing the language of documentary film and media literacy into Denver Public Schools. As proud educational partners w/ DPS. We are the only film based nonprofit with this designation. We piloted our documentary & media literacy program across DPS and spoke at 60 schools and more than 3,400 students about what we do. DDS activated 120 fourth grade students at Swansea elementary. We taught, lectured and presented our movies and methods with 1,080 high school students. We seek support to bring our assemblies, movies and methodologies into classrooms across Colorado.

Some twenty years ago, ACJF partnered with other public and private foundations in Alabama to make an investment in quality preK. ACJF’s $25,000 initial investment has morphed into First Class PreK, with a $181.6M budget in 2024. First Class Pre-K offers 4-year-olds the opportunity to attend high-quality preschool in their communities. It now serves over 24,000 children in 413 classrooms in 29 Alabama counties. Most impressively, First Class Pre-K has earned the highest quality rating from the National Institute for Early Education Research for 18 consecutive years. ACJF considers this program one of the crown jewels of our funding and for Alabama. We are incredibly proud of the teachers and center leaders who work so hard to serve Alabama’s children, of the children (past and present) served by the program, and of the families who entrust the hearts and minds of their toddlers to these classrooms????

During Week of the Young Child — and every week?— we encourage you to show your support for early childhood education and educators! #WOYC24 High-quality child care is an investment in Arizona's economy, ensuring children can learn and grow, parents can earn a living and support their families, and communities thrive. But the U.S. Chamber Foundation estimates that child care challenges cause a loss of?$1.7 billion annually?to Arizona's economy. Check out our website for stories highlighting child care providers across the state who improved their facilities and opened new ones so that more families in their communities could access high-quality child care. https://lnkd.in/gPqFW8fN Arizona Association for the Education of Young Children (AzAEYC) FIRST THINGS FIRST .

?? Investing in Our Future: Supporting Afterschool and Summer Learning Programs ?? As a lifelong advocate for youth development, I am proud to support the vital work being done to ensure that Congress prioritizes investments in our young people and their families for FY 2025. Afterschool and summer learning programs are indispensable in keeping our youth safe, engaged, and thriving—while providing working parents with the peace of mind they need. Now more than ever, we must ensure funding for programs like the 21st Century Community Learning Centers. These initiatives not only reduce long waitlists but also equip young people with the skills and resources needed to succeed in both school and life. With growing concerns around mental health and learning recovery, these programs are essential to ensuring every child has the opportunity to flourish. I have also championed increased funding for the Child Care Development Fund and AmeriCorps—two key pillars that empower communities and contribute to the overall well-being of our nation. Let’s continue advocating for the investments that our youth deserve. Together, we can create a future where every child has access to high-quality programs that lead to lifelong success. #AfterschoolWorks #SupportOurYouth #EducationMatters #CommunityImpact https://lnkd.in/e7WVKsmM

High-quality early education is not just a privilege—it's a necessity. Programs like ours at EOCF lay the foundation for lifelong learning, providing essential skills and support to young children and their families. These proposed changes put critical learning opportunities at risk, which are vital to our children's growth and future success.
